Giclée - A computerized reproduction technique in which the image and topography are generated from a digital file and printed by a special ink jet printer, using ink, acrylic or oil paints. Giclée printing offers one of the highest degree of accuracy and richness of color available in any reproduction techniques

Lithography - Printing technique using a planographic process in which prints are pulled on a special press from a flat stone or metal surface that has been chemically sensitized so that ink sticks only to the design areas and is repelled by the non-image areas. “Gallery wrapped” is a way of finishing a canvas artwork so it’s ready to hang without needing an additional frame. The canvas is stretched tightly over thick wooden stretcher bars, and the edges of the canvas are wrapped around the sides and stapled on the back.

Stretched - When a canvas is described as stretched, it means the artwork has been pulled tightly over a wooden frame (called stretcher bars) and secured on the back. This process keeps the canvas flat and smooth, ready to hang on the wall or to be placed inside an outer frame.

Hand Embellished - When an artwork is hand embellished, the artist (or a skilled studio artisan) personally adds paint, texture, or other details by hand on top of the printed or finished piece. NOTES: Most of artist Morgan Weistlingâ€™s art depicts scenes from the mid-to late-1800s rural American life, a time of the settling and defining values of our country. Itâ€™s a not too distant past that is recognizable, but just barely. In 2001, The Dance made Weistling the youngest person ever to win the Prix de West Award - he also won the Nona Jean Hulsey Buyersâ€™ Choice Award - from the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where it is now in the museumâ€™s permanent collection.

Morganâ€™s daughter, Brittany, posed for this painting when she was five years old. â€œLooking back on this painting 10 years later, I can still feel the music and remember the inspiration that stirred this idea,â€ says Morgan. â€œBrittany and I were visiting a Cowboy Poetry and Music festival and at one point she began to dance to some musicians much like in the painting. I later re-created that scene in my studio. I will always cherish the memories of Brittany and I dancing together as the musicians played for us.â€

This darling slip of a girl with a white apron dances on wooden floorboards worn smooth enough to twirl barefoot. We can almost feel the vibration of the music ourselves as the men lean into the rhythm and the expression of the music in her dance step. Itâ€™s been a long week of hard labor but tonight that melts away in a spirit of shared music and joy.

Weistlingâ€™s star continues to rise. He sold all four entries this year (2011) to the Masters of the American West Exhibition and Sale at the Autry National Center , where he won the Patronâ€™s Choice Award for the third time. That painting sold for nearly 75% over the reserve price.

"Morgan Weistling began his artistic training on his father's lap at 19 months of age, where he learned how to draw and more importantly, use his imagination. Capitalizing on his father s talent for telling a story in comic strip form, Morgan began to develop a sense of narrative in his drawing. "It was here that art became a language for me." At the age of 12, Morgan applied his interest in art to studying his father s art books and began his art school studies at the Brandes Art Institute at 15. Working in a Los Angeles art supply store while attending art school, Morgan chanced to show his artwork to a prominent illustrator. As a result of their encounter, at the age of 19, Weistling found himself employed at a top movie poster agency in Hollywood. For the next 14 years, Morgan illustrated for every movie studio in Hollywood. His clients included Universal/Amblin Entertainment, Disney, MGM, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Columbia Pictures and TriStar. In addition to movie posters, Weistling created all the cover artwork for the video series, McGee and Me for Focus on the Family and his art can be seen on numerous magazine, book, CD and video covers as well as Sega pinball machines. Since he has made fine art the focus of his art career, the collector demand for his originals has been overwhelming. With his masterful use of oils, Morgan Weistling brings a scene to life with spectacular lighting, creating a sense of wonder and engaging the viewer s imagination and emotion.
