James Bama (1926–2022) was a hyperrealist painter and Western artist known for his meticulously detailed portrayals of the American West. Originally a commercial illustrator, Bama gained recognition for his Doc Savage book covers and Aurora monster model kit artwork before transitioning into fine art. His contemporary realism captures the spirit of cowboys, Native Americans, and rugged Western landscapes with lifelike precision and emotional depth. Bama’s fine art prints and original paintings are revered for their ability to preserve the authenticity and heritage of the West, making him a defining figure in modern Western art.
The Warrior — Lithograph - GWWARR
NOTES: The Warrior — Lithograph - "More than one hundred years ago, a warrior's headdress like the one I've painted here was worn by the leader in a battle or by a brave who displayed extraordinary courage. While not physically protective in nature, the headdress was part of the warrior's medicine - part of his spiritual armor. He believed that the war bonnet would confer on him superhuman powers." Today, as in year's past, the headdress represents wisdom and eagle feathers are symbolic of the fierce predatory nature of the bird. The red paint this warrior is wearing could be war paint. There were no rules for the painting of the body; it was unique to each warrior and the colors and symbols reflected the personality of the individual..
The Warrior Lithograph by James Bama is signed by the artist and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
