The Gallery's Perspective
A single, upright hand held in calm salute feels both protective and quietly elegant. The porcelain surface reads as soft, matte white, and the raised, outward-facing palm creates an immediate sense of reassurance — like a gentle barrier offered without force. What makes this version memorable is the delicate botanical ornament that climbs the palm: slender golden leaves and warm-toned blossoms trace the hand’s planes, the painted veins and petal modeling catching light so the decoration seems to bloom from the form itself. The thumb’s little flower, sculpted petal by petal, gives a tender, human detail amid the stylized gesture. Set on a pared-down white support, the sculpture reads like a small ritual object — serene, refined, and quietly decorative — a piece that brings a feeling of calm ceremony and delicate craftsmanship into a room.

Protection Mudra. Since time immemorial, hand gestures have been a language in their
own right. Their expressiveness and symbolism have made them a
method of communication. On this occasion, our artists have focused on
the language of mudras, gestures that arrived to yoga and meditation
from Hinduism or Buddhism. For the former, there is a total of 24
mudras, one for each hour of the day, with each one having its own
different benefits. For the latter, they are gestures that predispose the
body for meditation and help them to concentrate.
Protection Mudra is inspired by these age-old gestures and is depicted as
a raised hand with the palm facing outward.
In this particular version, the hand is decorated with minutely etched plant motifs intertwined with the fingers, and with a porcelain flower on the thumb, as if it were a part of the pattern that had come to life. Various shades of golden luster were used in the decoration, sometimes with a matte finish, other times glazed.

Lladro was founded in 1953 when Juan, Jose, and Vicente, three brothers born of local farmers and endowed with great artistic talent, formed a small family company in the Valencian village of Almacera, Spain. Since then, Lladro has undergone an amazing metamorphosis from an artisan workshop to a huge firm of international scope enjoying continual growth. The company management has remained in the hands of the Lladro family, the owners of the firm, since its inception.
The creative team started out by adapting styles from past eras, but it was not long before certain characteristics appeared that would soon shape what was to become the unique Lladro style.
