Giclée - A computerized reproduction technique in which the image and topography are generated from a digital file and printed by a special ink jet printer, using ink, acrylic or oil paints. Giclée printing offers one of the highest degree of accuracy and richness of color available in any reproduction techniques
Lithography - Printing technique using a planographic process in which prints are pulled on a special press from a flat stone or metal surface that has been chemically sensitized so that ink sticks only to the design areas and is repelled by the non-image areas. Lithography was invented in 1798 in Germany by Alois Senefelder.
Serigraphy (Silk-screen) - A printing technique that makes use of a squeegee to force ink directly onto a piece of paper or canvas through a stencil creating an image on a screen of silk or other fine fabric with an impermeable substance. Serigraphy differs from most other printing in that its color areas are paint films rather than printing ink stains.

Artist's Proof (AP) - Print intended for the artist's personal use. It is common practice to reserve approximately ten percent of an edition as artist's proofs, although this figure can be higher. The artist's proof is sometimes referred to by its French épreuve d'artist (abbreviation E.A.). Artist's proofs can be distinguished by the abbreviation AP or E.A., commonly on the lower left of the work.
“Gallery wrapped” is a way of finishing a canvas artwork so it’s ready to hang without needing an additional frame. The canvas is stretched tightly over thick wooden stretcher bars, and the edges of the canvas are wrapped around the sides and stapled on the back.
Stretched - When a canvas is described as stretched, it means the artwork has been pulled tightly over a wooden frame (called stretcher bars) and secured on the back. This process keeps the canvas flat and smooth, ready to hang on the wall or to be placed inside an outer frame.
Hand Embellished - When an artwork is hand embellished, the artist (or a skilled studio artisan) personally adds paint, texture, or other details by hand on top of the printed or finished piece. This gives each artwork unique highlights and depth, making no two pieces exactly alike — even within the same edition.

NOTES: Yawl Flaneur - Donald Demers was born in 1956 in the small rural community of Lunenburg, Massachusetts. His interest in painting maritime subjects began while spending his summers on the coast of Maine near Boothbay Harbor. Crewing aboard schooners, square-riggers and other traditional craft have provided both the foundation for his technical expertise and the vision to transfer his first- hand experience to the canvas. His love of sailing has not diminished over the years. Don acknowledges his high school art teacher as the most formative influence in his early training. He continued his education at the School of the Worcester (MA) Art Museum and Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. His professional career began as an illustrator and soon expanded into the field of marine painting. A move to Maine in 1984 marked a shift in his career in which illustration yielded to marine and landscape painting. Illustration serves as a diversion from the demands of fine art and over the years, Reader’s Digest, Sail Magazine, Field & Stream, Sports Afield, Yankee, Downeast and most recently, the prestigious National Geographic magazines, in addition to several book publishers, have called on Don to create visual illumination for the written word. Don’s diversity has enabled him to offer his expertise to clients ranging from American Airlines to the National Park Service, with projects as varied as creating art for national television advertisements and designing art glass for Steuben. Demers’ body of work has expanded over the last several years to include the study and creation of both plein air and studio landscape paintings based on 19th century methods and philosophies. His landscape paintings have been widely acclaimed and honored throughout the country. Created in consort with painters of similar inspiration, it has been widely acclaimed and honored throughout the country. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Marine Artists, won a record number (11) awards at the Mystic International Marine Exhibition, Mystic, CT and at the Laguna Plein Air Invitational, Don has won two awards. His illustrations have been recognized four times by the Museum of American Illustration in their national competition as representing the finest examples of work in the field. A master of communication about his art form, Mr. Demers conducts workshops for artists and lectures on his art and maritime experiences, both here and abroad. Don has been featured in American Artist magazine, Artist magazine and Plein Air Magazine. His audiences include museums, art clubs and associations, yacht clubs, historical societies and educational institutions. .

After finishing an exemplary high school art program, he furthered his education at the School of the Worcester Art Museum, Worcester, MA, and the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, MA. Don s maritime experience came about as a crewmember aboard many traditional sailing vessels including schooners and square-riggers. He continues to be an avid sailor. His professional career began as an illustrator and expanded into the field of fine art. His illustrations can be found on many book covers and in national publications such asReader s Digest, Sail Magazine, Field & Stream, Sports Afield,Yankee, and National Geographic. Demers paintings have been featured in a number of publications including American Artist magazine, Artist magazine, Plein Air magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur , Art and Antiques, Yachtingmagazine, Nautical Quarterly, Nautical World, Offshore magazine, and Maine Boats and Harbors. His work has also been featured and discussed in a number of texts including Concordia Yawls, The First Fifty Years, by Elizabeth Meyer, Marine Painting and Yachts on Canvas, both authored by James Taylor, of Greenwich, England. Yacht Portraits published by Sheridan House, A Gallery of Marine Art, Rockport Publishers, an instructional textbook titled Marine Painting, Techniques of Modern Masterspublished by Watson Guptill and Bound for Blue Water written by J. Russell Jinishian and published by Greenwich Workshop. Demers diversity has enabled him to apply his skills to clients ranging from American Airlines to the National Park Service. Demers is a "Fellow" of the American Society of Marine Artists, an elected member of the Guild of Boston Artists, an elected member of the California Art Club, and a signature member of PAPA (Plein Air Painters of America). He has won a record seventeen awards at the Mystic International Marine Art Exhibition, Mystic, CT. including the Rudolph J. Schaefer Maritime Heritage Award in 2006. Demers illustrations have been recognized by the Museum of American Illustration four times in their national competition representing the finest examples of work in the field. Recognized for his communication skills, Don conducts workshops for artists as well as producing instructional DVDs. He also lectures on his landscape and marine art. His audiences include museums, art associations, yacht clubs, historical societies and educational institutions.
