Villa di Mare, 2001
$2,175.00
A sunlit path leads you down through a riot of Mediterranean color toward a sheltered harbor, and the view feels at once familiar and celebratory. Rich, saturated strokes describe bougainvillea, palms and flowering groundcover in the foreground—hot pinks, deep purples and vibrant greens—that set a warm, immediate stage for the calmer blues of the bay. Row upon row of terracotta roofs tumble down the hillside, their angles and warm tones offering a pleasing contrast to the cool water where masts punctuate the horizon like a small constellation of white lines. The distant headland is rendered in softened purples and blues, giving the scene depth without losing its sun-drenched clarity. Overall the serigraph conveys the relaxed energy of a seaside village: bright, convivial and alive with light. It’s the kind of image that brings a moment of vacation ease and color into a room, welcoming the eye to linger on its many joyful details.
