Villa di Mare, 2001

A warm hush of evening settles over a sunlit harbor in Twilight Rendezvous. The serigraph’s peach-and-rose wash across the water gives the sea a reflective, almost mirror-like glow, while the two sailboats drifting toward the shore introduce a gentle, unhurried movement. Close to view, terracotta roofs and sun-warmed stucco houses cluster down the hillside, their bright oranges and ochres making a friendly counterpoint to the cool green of the foreground foliage. A slender tree frames the right side, its dark leaves and branching silhouette lending intimate scale and a feeling of looking out from a private terrace. Small bursts of magenta and white flowers in the foreground add lively punctuation, grounding the scene in the pleasures of a lived-in place. The overall mood feels both restful and quietly expectant, like the soft pause between day and night when the coast seems to hold its breath and invite conversation.
