Villa Como, 2003
$4,850.00
Warm sunlight and sea-salted air seem to pour from this view of a seaside villa, where bright blooms and clipped cypress frame a distant harbor. The composition feels like a comfortable pause: foreground terraces of vivid yellow, lavender, and magenta plants lead to a pale stucco house with terracotta roofs, while the deep blue of the water stretches toward a sunlit coastline and mist-softened hills. Hallam’s palette is joyous and assured—saturated blues and greens counterbalanced by the warm ochres and reds—creating an easy Mediterranean glow. Brushwork reads as lively, almost mosaic-like dabs that give foliage and architecture a tactile, sunlit energy without insisting on tight detail. The overall effect is restorative: a scene that suggests leisure, color, and the uncomplicated pleasure of a day by the sea, one you can return to whenever you want a bright, optimistic view in the room.
The Artwork
"Villa di Mare" is an enhanced serigraph on canvas created by Kerry Hallam in 2001 for his 'La Dolce Vita' suite. From the edition of 260, the artwork is signed 'Kerry Hallam' lower right and annotated lower left. The artwork is framed in an ornate carved, gold-tone frame and has a framed size of 25 x 29". The artwork ships framed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Mediterranean-themed scenes form some of Kerry Hallam’s most popular imagery, and those from the ‘La Dolce Vita’ suite exemplify all that makes Hallam’s artwork stand out. Reminiscent of Italy’s Amalfi Coast, each of these images convey the bright palette and easy spirit of that scenic and oft-visited corner of the world. As in the movie of the same title, the serigraphs of the La Dolce Vita suite invite us on a sentimental visit to these places. Like Marcello Mastroianni, the Italian movie star, we glide from one gorgeous locale to the next, where every day is a new adventure, a new dare, and a new possibility. Start your day at the Café di Porto, sipping cappuccino and watching the boats leave the harbor for a day at sea. Midday, visit the Piazza Giardino and take a break in a shady spot to escape the hot Mediterranean sun. Later, walk along the flower-lined Via Fiore on your way to meet up with friends in the afternoon, and then return to your seaside villa, Villa di Mare, to relax and make plans for the evening. The works of Kerry Hallam translate the ordinary moment into the magical, inviting us to be revitalized by the simple pleasures of life. His images invite us to experience the rejuvenating power of these seaside havens - the transcendent blending of azure waters, flower-covered hillsides, and the brilliant sun that restores our spirit and soothes our soul. This work is published by Chalk & Vermilion Fine Arts, an affiliate of Martin Lawrence Galleries, no prior ownership.
