A warm welcome feels built into this scene—the low-slung auberge with its terracotta roofs and shuttered windows sits like an old friend at the edge of a sparkling inlet. You notice the way sunlit yellow vines and riotous bands of flowers frame the curving lane, leading you gently toward the building and the vivid sea beyond. Hallam’s palette is unapologetically bright: turquoise water, violet hills, and saturated greens read like memories of Mediterranean light rather than a literal record. Broad, confident brushstrokes give the landscape a tactile, almost mosaic quality, so that leaves, blossoms and distant rooftops resolve into color and movement instead of tiny detail. "Auberge du Soleil" is an enhanced serigraph on canvas created by Kerry Hallam in 2001. From the deluxe edition of 250 on canvas, the edition also included 250 on white paper for a total edition size of 500. The artwork is signed 'Kerry Hallam' lower left and annotated lower right. The artwork is framed in an ornate gold-tone frame and has a framed size of 30.5 x 52.75". Kerry Hallam is as refreshing and spirited as his paintings. He creates enticing images through bold palettes and captivating compositions. Born in Northern England, Hallam showed early artistic talent when he won a six-year scholarship to London University's Central College of Art. After a formal art education under British master painters Leslie Cole, Patrick Heron and Hans Tisdale, he completed his military service in the prestigious Gurkha brigade in Hong Kong and Malaya. Hallam's talent was further acknowledged when he was selected for inclusion in Britain's Royal Society of Artists in Watercolour.
Through innumerable one-man shows, Kerry Hallam has been honored by galleries around the world having shown at exhibitions in Paris, London, Tokyo, New York, Beverly Hills, Hong Kong, San Francisco and many other cities. His work has been featured in countless newspaper and magazine articles as well as in PBS television specials.
