Villa di Mare, 2001
$2,175.00
A sunlit window onto the Riviera, this serigraph feels like a warm exhale. The view places you on a flowered terrace — vivid beds of purple, yellow and pink push forward in the foreground while a solitary umbrella-shaped pine frames a cobalt sweep of sea. Hallam’s color choices make the Mediterranean feel immediate: turquoise shallows near the rocky shore deepen into a bright, sail-dotted blue as the coast recedes. Terracotta-roofed villas cling to the hillside in soft, sun-washed tones that contrast gently with the cool water, suggesting leisure without sentimentality. Brushlike, layered marks give foliage and distant hills a tactile energy, so the scene reads as both specific place and an idealized moment of light and heat. It’s the sort of picture that settles a room with a relaxed, optimistic mood — the pleasure of an afternoon by the sea held in a single, luminous view.
