There’s an easy pleasure in the way sunlight seems to settle across this coastal estate—warm ochres and terracotta roofs sit against cool turquoise water, and the whole scene feels like a lived-in memory of a holiday. The auberge itself stands gracious and slightly aloof, its pale façade and shuttered windows balanced by the darker grove to the left and a row of cypress rising like punctuation toward the sea. A gently curving road leads you past sunlit flowerbeds and a neat vineyard, and those energetic, visible brushstrokes give the land a tactile, wind-blown vitality. Color is the real voice here: vibrant greens and yellows of the vines, magenta and orange blossoms at the edges, and a soft purple wash on the distant hills that keeps the view luminous rather than harsh. "Auberge du Soleil" is a serigraph on paper created by Kerry Hallam in 2001. From the edition of 250 on white paper, the edition also included 250 on canvas for a total edition size of 500. The artwork is signed 'Kerry Hallam' lower right and annotated lower left. The image size is 22 x 44". When your stay is over, you leave reluctantly, carrying cases of the best they have to offer, which you will enjoy at home as you recall your wonderful holiday. Kerry Hallam is as refreshing and spirited as his paintings. He creates enticing images through bold palettes and captivating compositions. Born in Northern England, Hallam showed early artistic talent when he won a six-year scholarship to London University's Central College of Art. After a formal art education under British master painters Leslie Cole, Patrick Heron and Hans Tisdale, he completed his military service in the prestigious Gurkha brigade in Hong Kong and Malaya. Hallam's talent was further acknowledged when he was selected for inclusion in Britain's Royal Society of Artists in Watercolour.
Through innumerable one-man shows, Kerry Hallam has been honored by galleries around the world having shown at exhibitions in Paris, London, Tokyo, New York, Beverly Hills, Hong Kong, San Francisco and many other cities. His work has been featured in countless newspaper and magazine articles as well as in PBS television specials.
