Giclée - A computerized reproduction technique in which the image and topography are generated from a digital file and printed by a special ink jet printer, using ink, acrylic or oil paints. Giclée printing offers one of the highest degree of accuracy and richness of color available in any reproduction techniques

Lithography - Printing technique using a planographic process in which prints are pulled on a special press from a flat stone or metal surface that has been chemically sensitized so that ink sticks only to the design areas and is repelled by the non-image areas. Lithography was invented in 1798 in Germany by Alois Senefelder.

Serigraphy (Silk-screen) - A printing technique that makes use of a squeegee to force ink directly onto a piece of paper or canvas through a stencil creating an image on a screen of silk or other fine fabric with an impermeable substance. Serigraphy differs from most other printing in that its color areas are paint films rather than printing ink stains.

“Gallery wrapped” is a way of finishing a canvas artwork so it’s ready to hang without needing an additional frame. The canvas is stretched tightly over thick wooden stretcher bars, and the edges of the canvas are wrapped around the sides and stapled on the back.

Stretched - When a canvas is described as stretched, it means the artwork has been pulled tightly over a wooden frame (called stretcher bars) and secured on the back. This process keeps the canvas flat and smooth, ready to hang on the wall or to be placed inside an outer frame.

“Twilight is a transitional time, coming at both the beginning and end of the day. Between those extreme periods of light and dark, long sunrises and sunsets mark either the coming summer or approaching winter,” says the artist. “This arctic wolf pack stalks a ridgeline covered with only a light layer of snow indicating a time of change. Silent and still, just below the ridge, a ptarmigan with a mixed plumage of summer brown and winter white indicates a seasonal transition as well.”

"The serene outdoors seem at odds with the wild and crazy character of this artist, who is as famous for his paintings as he is for his sense of humor and gaudy shirts! If seen on his constant excursions into the wilds, many a collector would tell of an eccentric pirate come to life, only this swashbuckling, seemingly fearless explorer was more anxious to gain and share the treasure of knowledge rather than riches. ""I grew up in a house full of pets,"" he says. ""My mom had a degree in fine arts and although my dad was a lawyer, he was a weekend painter."" So his love of animals and art was sown early (also inspired when he received a gift of Roger Tory Peterson s Field Guide to the Birds) and he attended Willamette University with a major in art and a minor in biology. ""So I could know my subjects outside and in,"" he says. He put that education to good use as he embarked on a fine art career that would allow him to do what he enjoyed most; explore and learn. Frederick built his house in the middle of the Oregon wilderness and filled it with birds and animals. He s hiked and camped in mountains and forests throughout the northwest U.S., Central America and East Africa. He knows the lakes and mountains as well as he knows the plains and deserts, not to mention almost all the creatures who live there, from the smallest bird to the largest elephant. And he will paint them on whatever size canvas suits them best. In addition to his peaceful views of animals in their natural habitats, he is also known for his paintings many different sizes and shapesâ€”each chosen to best suit his perfectly balanced images of wildlife and wilderness. "
