Giclée - A computerized reproduction technique in which the image and topography are generated from a digital file and printed by a special ink jet printer, using ink, acrylic or oil paints. Giclée printing offers one of the highest degree of accuracy and richness of color available in any reproduction techniques
Lithography - Printing technique using a planographic process in which prints are pulled on a special press from a flat stone or metal surface that has been chemically sensitized so that ink sticks only to the design areas and is repelled by the non-image areas. Lithography was invented in 1798 in Germany by Alois Senefelder.
Serigraphy (Silk-screen) - A printing technique that makes use of a squeegee to force ink directly onto a piece of paper or canvas through a stencil creating an image on a screen of silk or other fine fabric with an impermeable substance. Serigraphy differs from most other printing in that its color areas are paint films rather than printing ink stains.

Artist's Proof (AP) - Print intended for the artist's personal use. It is common practice to reserve approximately ten percent of an edition as artist's proofs, although this figure can be higher. The artist's proof is sometimes referred to by its French épreuve d'artist (abbreviation E.A.). Artist's proofs can be distinguished by the abbreviation AP or E.A., commonly on the lower left of the work.
“Gallery wrapped” is a way of finishing a canvas artwork so it’s ready to hang without needing an additional frame. The canvas is stretched tightly over thick wooden stretcher bars, and the edges of the canvas are wrapped around the sides and stapled on the back.
Stretched - When a canvas is described as stretched, it means the artwork has been pulled tightly over a wooden frame (called stretcher bars) and secured on the back. This process keeps the canvas flat and smooth, ready to hang on the wall or to be placed inside an outer frame.
Hand Embellished - When an artwork is hand embellished, the artist (or a skilled studio artisan) personally adds paint, texture, or other details by hand on top of the printed or finished piece. This gives each artwork unique highlights and depth, making no two pieces exactly alike — even within the same edition.

NOTES: Artist Dean Mitchell has been earning awards since he was in his 20s. The over-400 to date include top honors from the National Watercolor Society and American Watercolor Society, the Arts for the Parks Medal for Overall Excellence and twice he received the watercolor award in recognition of exceptional artistic merit at the prestigious Masters of the American West Show at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles. Referred to as “a virtual modern-day Vermeer” by The New York Times, his portraits of people and places are infused with a sense of dignity as well as a sense of loss and beauty the artist often attributes to growing up poor and without a father.
“I am always searching for a sense of place—a sense of intimacy in my work,” he says. The landscape, Snow Hills, conveys much of the austere beauty of rural Americana in winter and then some. Scrappy vegetation and fence posts lean in toward the snow-covered road that leads the eye up through the scene to an unknown point in the future. This beautiful composition, painted in watercolor, is reproduced as a Fine Art Giclée on watercolor paper. The resulting edition, barely distinguishable from the original artwork, will bring a quiet grace to any wall.

"It is said that you must suffer for your art. Dean Mitchell understands the sentiment, but is not ruled by it. But the images of the life he sees around him are filled with emotion, whether it is a painting of a plain, light- splashed, whiteboard-paneled Southern church or a woman bowing in prayer. It is etched in the portraits of his grandmother s face, who raised him from the age of eleven months in a small town near Tallahassee, Florida. As a child, Mitchell knew he wanted to be an artist, a seemingly impossible choice for a boy in his circumstances, but he bought a set of oils when he was twelve and won two awards in the very first art competition he entered. He started painting in watercolor when he was attending the Columbus School of Art and Design in Ohio and his first job was teaching art at a Boy s Club for ten dollars an hour. Things changed when he started entering his paintings in competitions regularly. His exceptional ability in showing a special side of the seemingly ordinary gained immediate attention and reward. Within just a few years, Mitchell had won more than two hundred major art awards, including first prize at London, England s T.H. Saunders International Artist and Watercolour Show, top honors from the National Watercolor Society, the Art for the Parks Medal for Overall Excellence and the Hubbard Art Award for Excellence."
