NOTES: Appreciation was created as a tribute to the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. The painting represents the celebration of one€™s life, reflecting on those who paved the way and celebrates the purest and most natural form of beauty. As you see, the Black woman in this painting takes time to enjoy and appreciate the flowers in her life, specifically the flower (the African Flower) which represents her past and present. Her natural hair embodies her beginnings as it flows behind her. The under-drawing and sgraffito technique used were symbolic of appreciating the process as much as the end result..
