Giclée - A computerized reproduction technique in which the image and topography are generated from a digital file and printed by a special ink jet printer, using ink, acrylic or oil paints. Giclée printing offers one of the highest degree of accuracy and richness of color available in any reproduction techniques

Lithography - Printing technique using a planographic process in which prints are pulled on a special press from a flat stone or metal surface that has been chemically sensitized so that ink sticks only to the design areas and is repelled by the non-image areas. Lithography was invented in 1798 in Germany by Alois Senefelder.

Serigraphy (Silk-screen) - A printing technique that makes use of a squeegee to force ink directly onto a piece of paper or canvas through a stencil creating an image on a screen of silk or other fine fabric with an impermeable substance. Serigraphy differs from most other printing in that its color areas are paint films rather than printing ink stains.

Artist's Proof (AP) - Print intended for the artist's personal use. It is common practice to reserve approximately ten percent of an edition as artist's proofs, although this figure can be higher. The artist's proof is sometimes referred to by its French épreuve d'artist (abbreviation E.A.). Artist's proofs can be distinguished by the abbreviation AP or E.A., commonly on the lower left of the work.

“Gallery wrapped” is a way of finishing a canvas artwork so it’s ready to hang without needing an additional frame. The canvas is stretched tightly over thick wooden stretcher bars, and the edges of the canvas are wrapped around the sides and stapled on the back.

Stretched - When a canvas is described as stretched, it means the artwork has been pulled tightly over a wooden frame (called stretcher bars) and secured on the back. This process keeps the canvas flat and smooth, ready to hang on the wall or to be placed inside an outer frame.

Hand Embellished - When an artwork is hand embellished, the artist (or a skilled studio artisan) personally adds paint, texture, or other details by hand on top of the printed or finished piece. This gives each artwork unique highlights and depth, making no two pieces exactly alike — even within the same edition.

In the Beginning - LBINBEGINHE

NOTES: In 1983, while working as a high school art teacher, I did a very detailed pencil drawing that I titled “In the Beginning”. I worked for over a year on this drawing, which depicted the Biblical account of creation. This drawing, which was put into print, marked the beginning of my professional career as a full-time artist . Because of the emotional attachment I felt about this piece of work, I never tried to sell it or exhibit it. I stored it away in my studio. We had a flood in our home and water damaged the drawing almost beyond repair. I couldn’t bring myself to throw it out. I stored it away again, this time wrapping it in plastic. It remained in storage for many more years. In September of 2010, while organizing my studio, I came across this old drawing and felt as if I had become reacquainted with an old friend. Again, I could not throw it out. Something inside of me began to consider the idea of restoring it. The greatest challenge was to try to flatten this old piece of work, which was warped badly from the flood. It looked like a very weathered old potato chip. I soaked it in water, which further faded the drawing, but allowed it to lay flat. I then sandwiched it between two large pieces of plywood and clamped it. After a few days, I opened it and there before me was a perfectly smooth and flat but faded old drawing . I immediately put it on my easel and began to think about “what now”. How much time could I devote to the re-creation of this piece. I decided to sit down and paint, with bright colored pastels, one new flower. It literally jumped out of the picture. It was exciting to me. Each day, I went down to my studio with full intentions of working on the other paintings that I normally do, but I found myself drawn to my 27 year old drawing. It seemed to be begging for my attention. I added another image. As the days went by, I continued to work on this old drawing. I found myself becoming obsessed as I added more and more vibrant colorful new forms of life. As the weeks and months went by, I found great delight as I watched this painting take on a life of it’s own. I selected complex and beautiful fish, flowers, birds, and butterflies that seemed to scream out that they have been designed by God. I used my younger son as the model for Adam, who is about to be given the gift of life and consciousness by a simple touch to the forehead by the hand of an infinitely loving and creative God. It took me seven months to complete this very heartfelt work. I humbly introduce to you the new version of “In the Beginning”. .

Lee Bogle can't remember when he wasn't an artist. Drawing, painting, and picturing life are among his earliest memories and have always been more than a pastime. For many years he has described his art, prints and posters as a passion. "Painting defines me," he says from his home in Kirkland, Washington, where he lives with his wife, Sherri, and their two sons. "It's who I am, not just what I do." Bogle received his degree in art from Central Washington University and pursued graduate study at the University of Washington. His art, prints and posters are exhibited widely in galleries and museums throughout the country. With a growing number of avid collectors, his limited edition prints sell out soon after release. Collectors know him for his art, prints and posters of Native Americans, often solitary figures of women whose beauty far surpasses the superficial. Other works depict men and women, who appear as soulmates rather than mere romantic couples. While his paintings artistically speak for themselves, they also reflect his appreciation for the organic. Working with muted, atmospheric colors, he is a master at depicting the expressive quality of light.
