The Gallery's Perspective
A slow, meditative exhale seems to pass through this image—Felix Mas renders a woman and the sea as if they are the same breath. Her head tilts back, eyes closed, and the soft modeling of her skin gives her an intimate, restful presence. Swirling waves in turquoise, teal and deep indigo curl and lace across the composition, their playful foam echoed in the delicate spirals of shells tucked by her ear. The contrast between the woman’s warm, velvety flesh tones and the cool, rhythmic blues of the water creates a gentle tension: serene yet alive with motion. Small, jewel-like highlights and the decorative curlicues of foam give the surface a lyrical, almost musical quality. The overall mood is one of surrender and quiet joy—an image that feels both personal and mythic, like a private reverie about belonging to the sea.

Spanish Artist Felix Mas uses his paintbrush to convey emotion. It is his gift. It is our good fortune. He considers himself a traditionalist, obsessed with form and color, creating images that celebrate femininity and luminous beauty of the female form.
Born in Barcelona, he trained at both the Artes y Oficios and the Escuela Superior de San Jorge, then furthered his artistic education with extensive travels throughout Europe and the United States, eventually returning to his native Barcelona to work.
