Night Room, 2000

A quiet sense of wonder opens from the moment you notice a delicate glass bubble settled in an alpine valley — at once improbable and perfectly at home. The small format makes the scene feel intimate, like peering through a window into a private, imagined landscape: sheer cliffs and layered terraces recede into misty distance while verdant meadows and scattered orange blossoms give the valley a gentle warmth. The bubble reflects a soft, silvery light and slightly distorts the terrain behind it, suggesting fragility and the playful surprise of finding something familiar in an unexpected place. Subtle, careful marks and a muted palette lend a dreamy clarity; nothing shouts for attention, and that quiet restraint lets the little surreal touch — the glass sphere — become the piece’s charming center. It’s the kind of picture that rewards a pause and a curious smile.
The Artwork
"Bubble in Valley" is a lithograph created by Fanny Brennan in 2000. From the edition of 300, the artwork is initialed 'FMB' lower right and annotated lower left. The artwork is framed in a contemporary silver and dark gray frame and has a framed size of 14.5 x 15.125". The artwork ships framed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Each of Brennan's prints is a compact world of real and imaginary elements, playful and ambiguous, though completely enjoyable. "My intention is to depart entirely from the the customary view of miniature painting," notes the artist. "I do not paint mementos. Rather, by placing familiar objects in unfamiliar settings, I try to produce an image that will be remembered for its own sake." This work is published by Chalk & Vermilion Fine Arts, an affiliate of Martin Lawrence Galleries, no prior ownership.
