Night Room, 2000
$395.00
There is a quiet bit of mischief in the way these familiar volumes refuse the rules of gravity. A neat stack of books sits on a textured surface while three slim tomes hover above it, perfectly aligned as if paused mid-descent. The soft, even light and a calm blue background make the scene feel both ordinary and slightly uncanny — the colors of the spines, in warm reds, greens and golds, read like a small, cherished collection. The careful, miniature handling of detail keeps the image intimate; you notice the worn edges, the printed bands on the spines and the subtle shadow beneath the floating books that gives the scene its gentle surprise. It’s a playful meditation on memory and the small wonder found in everyday objects, the kind of image that quietly makes you smile and then think about the stories those books might hold.
The Artwork
"Floating Books" is a lithograph created by Fanny Brennan in 2000. From the edition of 300, the artwork is initialed 'FMB' lower right and annotated lower left. The artwork is framed in a contemporary silver and dark gray frame and has a framed size of 16.25 x 15.25". The artwork ships framed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Each of Brennan's prints is a compact world of real and imaginary elements, playful and ambiguous, though completely enjoyable. "My intention is to depart entirely from the the customary view of miniature painting," notes the artist. "I do not paint mementos. Rather, by placing familiar objects in unfamiliar settings, I try to produce an image that will be remembered for its own sake." This work is published by Chalk & Vermilion Fine Arts, an affiliate of Martin Lawrence Galleries, no prior ownership.
