Night Room, 2000
$395.00
A small, surprising landscape unfolds like a secret when you lean in: the open book at the center becomes a patchwork of fields and a lone house, its vivid greens and soft sky standing in sharp, gentle contrast to the muted grayscale world beyond. Fanny Brennan’s playful compression of scale—where a book’s gutter turns into a valley and printed pages read as rolling hills—creates a moment that feels both private and expansive. The delicate, almost whispery pencil and wash treatment around the edges keeps the eye focused on the bright interior scene, while the tiny house tucked among hedgerows adds a human note of shelter and memory. Charming and slightly ambiguous, the image suggests the pleasure of getting lost in a story that opens into its own landscape, an invitation to imagine what other worlds might sit waiting between the covers.
The Artwork
"Chateau" is a lithograph created by Fanny Brennan in 1992. From the edition of 300, the artwork is initialed 'FMB' lower right and annotated lower left. The image size is 2 x 3" and the artwork is framed in a contemporary silver and dark gray frame. The artwork ships framed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Each of Brennan's prints is a compact world of real and imaginary elements, playful and ambiguous, though completely enjoyable. "My intention is to depart entirely from the the customary view of miniature painting," notes the artist. "I do not paint mementos. Rather, by placing familiar objects in unfamiliar settings, I try to produce an image that will be remembered for its own sake." This work is published by Chalk & Vermilion Fine Arts, an affiliate of Martin Lawrence Galleries, no prior ownership.
