His intelligence and sharp wit are legendary and so is his record as the British Prime Minister, saving the free world and all.\u003c/p\u003e \u003cdiv\u003e \u003cp\u003eI wanted to do a portrait of Churchill as I imagine he would have looked if I were in his study enjoying a brandy and a cigar and talking with him. I knew I wanted to show his impish grin at some remark he made. For this painting, I gathered dozens of photographs and found only one or two with him smiling. Of course, I realized the always image conscious Churchill would show his determined, bulldog look whenever he knew he was being photographed. This portrait, I hope, portrays a more personal, human side of the great man.\u003c/p\u003e \u003c/div\u003e

Andy Thomas is not only an immensely talented painter, but also a storyteller with the images he creates. His subject matter consists of a variety of images from historical events to intimate moments of everyday life. The artist s desire to create is funneled into the area of painting realism that ranges from very loose to very tight. Thomas s medium is primarily oil, but he also works in watercolor, pen and ink, charcoal, pencil, and ink wash. He is also a very accomplished sculptor.
