"I try to create a feeling of idealism in my art, a sense of romance and playfulness. My intention is to capture the peacefulness of a moment through the use of light and color. Ultimately, the use of light is what motivates me as an artist." — Robert Williams Robert Williams is a modern day Impressionist. Raised on the island of Catalina, his early carefree days near the shore have left an indelible imprint on his art style. Long recognized for his sun-drenched beach scenes of women and children at play on the sand and in the surf, his paintings express a timelessness, sensuality and great tranquility. His colors blend and flow like a pastel swirl of abalone shell under green sea foam. Inspired by the works of Monet and Sargent, and heavily influenced by the American impressionist William Merritt Chase, Robert Williams furthered a paintin style known as California Impressionism. His radiant use of light, subject, and powerful coloring techniques demonstrate unparalleled talent and sensitivity. After studying at the renowned Chouinard Art Institute, Williams was sought by major Hollywood movie studios, including MGM and Universal, to design scenic art. In 1980, he was signed by Walt Disney Studios where he designed innovative murals and scenery. For more than thirty years, his art work has been his life's passion and his work shows in innumerable national and private collections. Over the past two decades, the art of Robert Williams has been presented at more than 200 exhibitions.
