The Gallery's Perspective
A small, mischievous moment of delight lives in this figure—an attentive child tilting his head back to send a bright, fanciful fish aloft on a slender pole. The sculpture’s gentle upward movement and the child’s lifted chin create a sense of buoyant playfulness, while the careful rendering of posture and expression gives the scene a warm, human specificity. Color is a central joy here: the hand-painted gallery-proof palette dresses the fish in patterned scales and the child in striped socks and embroidered trousers, turning costume and kite into partners in a miniature parade. The textured base and the delicate metal rod contrast the solidity of the figure with the airy sweep of the kite, so the composition feels both grounded and spirited. Sweet, quiet, and lively all at once, this piece celebrates youthful imagination with dignity and charm.
