Pride of the Piegan
$1,800.00
A pulse of triumph animates this scene: figures move and shout across a sunlit plain, feathers and fringe lifted by the momentum of a communal victory dance. Liang’s painting places us inside that gathering — you can almost hear drums and calls in the warm air — by arranging warriors in a loose ring whose gestures range from proud, upright stance to the low, rhythmic crouch of a dancer. The palette favors golden grasses and sky-blue distance, so the reds, turquoise, and earth tones of regalia read vivid against the landscape without feeling theatrical. Small narrative details — a raised rifle held aloft like a banner, shields and headdresses worn with visible wear, a dog at the edge of the group — make the moment feel lived-in rather than staged. Overall, the work conveys communal joy and resilience: a dramatic, human celebration anchored in place and weather, one that lingers in memory as both an event and a shared expression of identity.
