The fallen man’s scuffed jeans and the mallet he loosely holds suggest struggle and weariness, while the trail of red at their feet and the scattered white lilies at the edges introduce a solemn, restorative tone. One of the most popular Christian images of all time, Forgiven captures Christ embracing and forgiving a fallen soul. It symbolizes the everlasting love and forgiveness of our Savior. Tom will tell you that the painting was not his idea alone...For about a month, he says he was looking for inspiration. He prayed and fasted, hoping for an idea to spark. It happened at a church service. “While I was singing, God downloaded this image in my mind,” Blackshear said. “I always say that I did not create ‘Forgiven.’ It was given to me.”
