About Little devil cat Sculpture. Limited Edition

Little Devil Cat is one of the three characters in You Choose One, a work with which Javier Calleja makes us think about the voice of conscience, about that “Jiminy Cricket” and, on this occasion, about the little devil we all have inside us. With a cat’s body, bat wings, little horns, and a pointed tail, more than scaring the life out of us, we will probably want to take this little devil home. His yellow glass eyes give him a highly personal character while the handcrafted elaboration makes each cat unique. Is painted a warm black with a gloss finish, a color created specifically for Javier Calleja and our in-house team of decoration artists who have achieved the desired tone by developing a reddish black using a special formula. The apparent outer simplicity of Little Devil Cat hides a highly complex process of reproduction in porcelain. The large size of the head and the structure of the wings posed a significant technical challenge, especially during the firing in the kiln where, like all Lladró creations, the piece undergoes a reduction of about 15% in size. To ensure that this reduction is successful and that the piece maintains its proportions calls for meticulous prior research and experimentation and consummate control over porcelain. The result is a unique work of art signed by one of the world’s most sought-after contemporary artists. No matter how devilish he may be, or perhaps precisely because of it, you are bound to fall in love with this little imp.

Lladro

Lladro was founded in 1953 when Juan, Jose, and Vicente, three brothers born of local farmers and endowed with great artistic talent, formed a small family company in the Valencian village of Almacera, Spain. Since then, Lladro has undergone an amazing metamorphosis from an artisan workshop to a huge firm of international scope enjoying continual growth. The company management has remained in the hands of the Lladro family, the owners of the firm, since its inception. The creative team started out by adapting styles from past eras, but it was not long before certain characteristics appeared that would soon shape what was to become the unique Lladro style.
