You first notice a gentle, serene presence—Lladro’s porcelain Ganesha sits with elegant poise, its smooth matte surface balancing richly worked ornament and soft color. The figure’s seated gesture feels composed yet welcoming: one hand raised in blessing, another offering a bowl of round sweets, while a finely detailed garland of pale blossoms and pink roses draws the eye down the torso and across the lap. Gold luster and turquoise accents give the crown, halo and garments a jeweled shimmer against the calm white of the body, creating a warm contrast that reads as both devotional and decorative. Close looking rewards the small pleasures: the filigree-like detailing on the halo and the hand-painted marks on the forehead, plus the little mouse at the base that adds a note of charm. The legend goes that Ganesha, the son of Shiva and Parvati, was born while his father was fighting against the Asuras or devils. When he returned from war, Ganesha did not recognize him and a fight broke out between the two in which Shiva beheaded his son. Shiva went down to earth with the promise of giving his son the head of another being and it turned out to be an elephant. Believed to be the eliminator of obstacles, Lord Ganesha transcends its hug importance in the Hindu culture and becomes a universal symbol of wisdom.
Lord Ganesha - Lladro's artists have recreated the Hindu god of wisdom and knowledge in a winning combination of matte porcelain with enamels, golden luster in various different parts of the piece plus metallic effects paying tribute to the wealth of its iconography. Particularly outstanding is the highly elaborate ornamentation, which features an exquisite filigree work enriching every detail of the piece, including an elaborate garland of over 206 delicate flowers, one of the brands signature elements. Lladro was founded in 1953 when Juan, Jose, and Vicente, three brothers born of local farmers and endowed with great artistic talent, formed a small family company in the Valencian village of Almacera, Spain. Since then, Lladro has undergone an amazing metamorphosis from an artisan workshop to a huge firm of international scope enjoying continual growth. The company management has remained in the hands of the Lladro family, the owners of the firm, since its inception.
The creative team started out by adapting styles from past eras, but it was not long before certain characteristics appeared that would soon shape what was to become the unique Lladro style.
