Wrigley Field, 2016

A soft Parisian dusk sets the scene—warm apricot clouds and a pale moon thread the sky behind the tall, hieroglyph-marked obelisk, while the fountain in the foreground spills shimmering arcs of water. The composition feels conversational: Kondakova places the fountain close and detailed so you can appreciate the sculpted figures and the cool green patina, while the obelisk and classical façades sit slightly back, giving a sense of place without overwhelming the scene. Color does much of the emotional work here—the sunset's peach and lavender tones lend a gentle nostalgia that contrasts with the fountain’s deeper greens and bronzes, making the water’s translucent paths seem almost musical. The handling is precise yet warmly stylized, so the viewer senses both a real Paris square and an artist’s affectionate reinterpretation of it. It’s the kind of view that encourages a quiet smile and the imagining of an evening stroll beneath those lamps.
