Wrigley Field, 2016

A warm, nostalgic stroll down a Paris sidewalk is what this serigraph offers—every detail feels like a small discovery. Kondakova’s storefront is rendered with loving precision: the glossy mahogany facade, the ornate central relief of an embracing pair, and the tiny painted portrait medallions above the windows give the scene a turn-of-the-century charm. The striped awning and the adjacent shop with its cheery yellow-and-lilac canopy introduce a bright counterpoint that keeps the composition lively rather than simply historic. Light is handled delicately; soft highlights on the glass and metalwork and subtle shadowing on the cobblestones add depth and a sense of crisp afternoon air. Because the image is both decorative and affectionate, it feels like a memory of Paris filtered through an illustrator’s eye—elegant, approachable, and quietly joyous. It’s the sort of image that can lend a room character without shouting, inviting a moment of calm appreciation whenever you pass it.
