"The drama of the elk in rut during the early parts of autumn will never bore me. Every year, we venture out to catch glimpses of it, which bring new ideas and excitement. In this painting, I enjoyed depicting the elk in a bit of a processional role, with the bull as the focal point and acting as if he is in command. Reallly, all that he does is to try to keep the herd together and round-up any strays to prevent losing them to another bull in hopes of spreading his genes to as many calves as possible.

Kyle was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on June 12th, 1980. He is one of two sons born unto Jon and Beth Sims with his sibling named Blake, two years the younger. Kyle s training with the arts began very early, but with no formal regimen in place. His talent was recognized and encouraged by his parents from the beginning. He had very good art teachers growing up and by good, he means that they taught him fundamentals and principals of art, but had the ability to let him go with things when they saw the chance rather than forcing him to do what they think is good. Kyle continued along in his development as not only a child, but with his art. He enjoyed athletics, including cross country, basketball, and track. But it was around the age of 13 that he can remember having a strong interest building towards painting animals in particular.
