Rebuilding The Black Family
$2,500.00
A single figure standing in profile gives this work a quiet, resolute presence. The young man’s skin is rendered with careful attention to light and subtle color — warm highlights and cool shadows describe the planes of his face and neck, while goggles hang casually at his throat as a small, telling detail. Opposite him a chain-link fence bisects the composition; beyond it a lifeguard chair, umbrella and a small sign reading "PUBLIC SWIMMING POOL — WHITE ONLY" appear like relics of a contested past. The juxtaposition of the calm, dignified figure and the hard metal barrier creates a restrained tension: memory and identity meet exclusion and history without melodrama. The pared palette and strong silhouette let the human presence feel immediate, while the fence and signage give the scene a clear social weight. It’s a thoughtful, composed piece that holds both stillness and quiet insistence.
