The Gallery's Perspective
A warm rush of life seems to pour directly from the pages in this striking image — the gilt edges of the open book gleam as water arcs and spills, forming a delicate cross-shaped splash above the text. The hands beneath hold the volume gently and protectively, giving the composition a feeling of reverence and care. Close observation rewards you with tactile details: the worn gold of the page-edges, the translucent beads of water caught mid-flight, and the soft, shadowed background that keeps attention on the central gesture. Together these elements create a clear, comforting metaphor of refreshment and grace without being literal or heavy-handed. The overall effect feels hopeful and sustaining, as if the object in the hands is both source and shelter — an image that can offer quiet reassurance in a contemplative corner of the home.
The Artwork
About Living Water
I was inspired to make this image after reading about Jesus and the Samaritan woman in John 4. Jesus told the woman that He and only He could provide a living water to her, in which she would never thirst again. I love the imagery of water in the Bible and wanted to combine both the "Word of God" and "water" in the same piece. After the basic photography was done for this one, I went back and digitally manipulated the cross shape with the water drops. No matter how many times I poured water, I could never get it to make the cross shape accurately. But I wanted to make sure the cross was in the image, because that is how we access this living water: Through the finished work of Jesus on the cross. Reproduced from the artist''s digital artwork created with Midjourney and Photoshop.
