Outside The Box Gallery Wrap

Three graceful figures stand like a quiet chorus, each folded inward with hands gently clasped and eyes lowered—an image of contemplation that feels both intimate and reverent. James Christensen dresses them in richly patterned robes and places oversized butterfly wings behind each woman, lending a sense of fragile beauty and uplift without disrupting the calm. The warm jewel tones—amber, teal, rose and gold—give the composition a comforting glow, while the subtle, aged background and delicate Greek lettering suggest a link to tradition and language beyond words. The repeated vertical silhouettes and barefooted stillness convey steadiness and humility; together they read as three virtues in human form, distinct yet harmonized. It’s the kind of work that offers a peaceful presence in a room, quietly reminding us of tenderness, endurance, and generous-heartedness.
The Artwork
Inspired by a recent mural project, James Christensen set out on an awfully big adventure. Wanting to do something grand and romantic while exploring the texture, surface and richness of paint, James chose for his subject three of Paul's greatest virtues - in the form of three women. "This piece is a little bit of a departure," Jim says. "But these gifts of the spirit are important qualities for us to remind each other about." The words in gold leaf identify the three as their names appear in the original Greek Biblical text. "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity." - I Corinthians 13:13
