Outside The Box Gallery Wrap

There’s a gentle stillness in the way these three figures stand side by side — hands folded, eyes lowered, wings softly fanned — that feels like a quiet reminder rather than a sermon. The artist dresses each woman in richly patterned, layered garments whose jewel tones and warm golds give the work a comforting, storybook warmth. Notice how the butterfly-like wings behind them echo one another yet carry slightly different markings, suggesting related but distinct virtues. The faded, textured background and the touches of gold leaf lettering lend the image an almost-iconic calm, as if these qualities are being honored rather than commanded. Placed together, the trio reads as a companionable presence: reassuring, humble, and tender — a visual meditation on faith, hope and charity that brings warmth and a sense of gentle dignity to a room.
The Artwork
Inspired by a recent mural project, James Christensen set out on an awfully big adventure. Wanting to do something grand and romantic while exploring the texture, surface and richness of paint, James chose for his subject three of Paul's greatest virtues - in the form of three women. "This piece is a little bit of a departure," Jim says. "But these gifts of the spirit are important qualities for us to remind each other about." The words in gold leaf identify the three as their names appear in the original Greek Biblical text. "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity." - I Corinthians 13:13
