The Flight Attendant
$425.00
You almost expect him to wink as he settles back into that voluptuous leather chair — a small triumph of comic self-satisfaction captured in miniature. Guillermo Forchino’s little tycoon leans with cheerful entitlement: crossed legs, one hand curled around a snifter of amber liquor, the other holding a stubby cigar. The exaggerated facial features and slightly closed eyes give him a roguish, well-fed charm rather than menace; he reads as a man amused by his own cleverness. Rich burgundy upholstery and the warm wood base ground the scene, while the pale blue suit and bright red tie provide a pleasing, humorous contrast that keeps the figure from feeling stiff. Tiny details — the newspaper slabbed on the side table, the watchful posture of the hands, the wrinkled socks — make him feel like a complete character with a backstory you can’t help inventing. It’s a playful, decorative sculpture that brings personality and a knowing smile to whatever shelf or mantel it occupies.
