Giclée - A computerized reproduction technique in which the image and topography are generated from a digital file and printed by a special ink jet printer, using ink, acrylic or oil paints. Giclée printing offers one of the highest degree of accuracy and richness of color available in any reproduction techniques
Lithography - Printing technique using a planographic process in which prints are pulled on a special press from a flat stone or metal surface that has been chemically sensitized so that ink sticks only to the design areas and is repelled by the non-image areas. Lithography was invented in 1798 in Germany by Alois Senefelder.
Serigraphy (Silk-screen) - A printing technique that makes use of a squeegee to force ink directly onto a piece of paper or canvas through a stencil creating an image on a screen of silk or other fine fabric with an impermeable substance. Serigraphy differs from most other printing in that its color areas are paint films rather than printing ink stains.

Artist's Proof (AP) - Print intended for the artist's personal use. It is common practice to reserve approximately ten percent of an edition as artist's proofs, although this figure can be higher. The artist's proof is sometimes referred to by its French épreuve d'artist (abbreviation E.A.). Artist's proofs can be distinguished by the abbreviation AP or E.A., commonly on the lower left of the work.
“Gallery wrapped” is a way of finishing a canvas artwork so it’s ready to hang without needing an additional frame. The canvas is stretched tightly over thick wooden stretcher bars, and the edges of the canvas are wrapped around the sides and stapled on the back.
Stretched - When a canvas is described as stretched, it means the artwork has been pulled tightly over a wooden frame (called stretcher bars) and secured on the back. This process keeps the canvas flat and smooth, ready to hang on the wall or to be placed inside an outer frame.
Hand Embellished - When an artwork is hand embellished, the artist (or a skilled studio artisan) personally adds paint, texture, or other details by hand on top of the printed or finished piece. This gives each artwork unique highlights and depth, making no two pieces exactly alike — even within the same edition.

NOTES: The Lakota Wicitowa (Lakota Paintings) of Daniel Long Soldier are one of the purest expressions of American art we’ve ever presented. The naïve drawing style, created on pages of an authentic late 1800’s ledger, immediately raise the question of whether or not we were looking at something created 150 years ago or today.
Long Soldier brings us what no other artist can: he grew up hearing the stories and exploits of the Oglala Sioux told as family histories. Just as we know what Uncle Jack did during WWII, he knows what his Grandfather did at Little Bighorn.
The four-panel story of Jack Red Cloud is just such an example. As an adult, Red Cloud was recognized as a leader and orator of the Oglala. As a young man he was as eager as any other young brave to prove his worth in battle. As the son of the renowned chief Red Cloud, he felt the pressure even more. Wearing his father’s war bonnet and carrying his gun Yellow Boy, Jack and other teen warriors rode with a war party against the Crow.
Jack bravely attacked a group of Crow by himself, but found himself in trouble when he ran out of ammunition for Yellow Boy. Recognized as the chief’s son he became the target of the Crow. In the ensuing chase, he was knocked off his horse as the Crow counted coup and he lost his father’s bonnet and rifle. He was saved by a fellow Oglala warrior.
Daniel Long Soldier’s four-panel Story of Jack Red Cloud has been combined onto a single sheet for presentation as this Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Edition Giclèe Paper. This 29 ½ x 21 print, in an edition of 50, is as authentic piece of fine art and Plain’s history as any collector could hope to own.
1. Leaving the camp, one fight with the Crow involved Chief Red Clouds son, Jack Red Cloud who was in his teens had joined other younger men to win their first battle honors. He wears fathers war bonnet and carries his fathers model 1866 Winchester lever action rifle know as “Yellow Boy”
2. Living at Red Cloud Agency through his teen years, here was a chance to join a war party. Anxious to win honors, Jack Red Cloud attacks a group of Crow warriors by himself. He runs out of bullets and makes a fast retreat.
3. The Crow warriors give chase to Jack Red Cloud. Recognizing him as Chief Red Clouds son, they taunt him, laugh at him and then whipped him with their bows and quirts. They take his fathers bonnet and rifle, then they knock him off his horse.
4. He is rescued by an Oglala Sioux warrior

Daniel Long Soldier bio
"There are a lot of people," begins Daniel Long Soldier, "who don t know the history of our people as we know it. They have only heard one side of a story or what they have seen in Hollywood movies. The stories I m telling I ve heard from people who are 80 or 90 years old and heard these stories from their parents. These are the stories my grandpa, my uncles and my dad told me." Daniel is an Oglala Lakota Sioux born on the Pine Ridge Reservation. He first began drawing with sticks on the sandbanks of a local creek. Recently he found that the drawings he made on the walls of the house he grew up in as a child are still there. This self-taught artist worked as an illustrator during the 1960s for the Dayton Journal News, but returned to Pine Ridge during the turbulent 1970s. Long Soldier started painting what he calls Lakota Wicitowa (Lakota Paintings) in the mid-80s because he liked the authenticity and simplicity they lent to the story they told. Even then he would only paint them for special occasions such as buffalo robes he created for the Omaha in Macy NE and the Santee Sioux.
