1. Scott Gustafson The Hare   $125.00

Gustafson takes us back to another fairy tale - this time one with a light-hearted moral. he says: "The Tortoise and the Hare is one of the most popular stories in children's literature... thanks to Bugs Bunny. Bugs did no less than three versions of the fable in his classic cartoons - but all supported the original tale's double moral: slow and steady wins the race while it's not wise to be too sure of yourself. Or my own interpretation of what the rabbit learns: don't let success catch you napping!"

3. Scott Gustafson Daniel In The Lion´s Den Limited Edition Canvas   $595.00

Like children’s stories, Bible stories teach us lessons about life.I grew up in a small town and attended a Lutheran grade school where I was taught many Bible stories at a very early age, says artist Scott Gustafson.I think of my approach to my artwork as a form of storytelling; and although most of my work to date has been illustrating fairy tales, nursery rhymes and other forms of literature, it all really comes down to telling a story in pictures.

5. Scott Gustafson Don Quixote Limited Edition Print   $150.00

Renowned for his paintings inspired from children’s literature, Gustafson turns this time to a classic of adult fiction, Cervantes’ Don Quixote. Scott has interpreted the famous tilting at windmills passage when Quixote declares to his servant Sancho that he will do battle with the many-armed giant. Cervantes made Quixote a figure both ridiculous and admirable, Scott says, and I’ve tried to capture both those qualities. The scrawny rooster on the lower right represents Quixote’s foolish, macho intention to impress the lady in his life. At the same time, I’ve set the scene at sunset, suggesting we’re seeing the last shining moments of chivalry. Is Quixote the only one who experiences flights of fancy? Look closely at one of the clouds in the distance, and you just might see the outlines of a giant wielding a club.

6. Scott Gustafson Hansel And Gretel Limited Edition Print   $125.00

This is crafted to downplay the scariness of the tale and highlight the gleeful moment when the children discover a house made entirely of edible things. They are literally like kids in a candy store. Notice the witch peeking out of a makeshift window created by the candy pane Gretel is eating.

7. Scott Gustafson Happily Ever After Limited Edition Print   $185.00

No other image seemed to evoke the larger-than-life quality of fairy tales than that of the friendly giant carrying children through an enchanted landscape. Only a character of gargantuan proportions could offer the unsurpassed view and fantastic vistas visible from his shoulders, not to mention the keys to unlock the magic of the stories around them, says Scott Gustafson.

9. Scott Gustafson Little Bo Peep Limited Edition Print   $125.00

You ever have one of those days? I dont think Bo is a bad sheepherder--her flock was probably just having some fun with her. So I wanted to create a peaceful expansive mood, one that radiates happiness rather than worry. ‘Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep,/ And cannot tell where to find them; / Leave them alone, and theyll come home,/ And bring their tails behind them.’

10. Scott Gustafson Mary Mary Quite Contrary Limited Edition Print   $125.00

Can you find all the hidden references to this lovely old nursery rhyme? Scott says that the lively looking daisies are the pretty maids all in a row. The seashells bordering the flowerbed in the background are cockle shells. And the silver bells? When I was a kid, Scott says, I always called lily of the valley silver bells because of their bell-shaped blooms, so Ive planted a few of them at Marys feet. It would be quite contrary for roses, tulips, and marigold to be anything less than beautiful and the colors of these are simply exquisite.

11. Scott Gustafson Old King Cole Limited Edition Print   $125.00

This is one of my favorite paintings. I played with the ideas of a king, a pipe and a bowl. Of course, I first thought of the king of the jungle. I didnt want a pipe that had anything to do with tobacco but I also didnt want to change it into a pan pipe or anything similar. My memory went back to childhood and a bubble-blowing pipe. That idea led naturally to the bowl of bubble mixture . . . although I was tempted by the idea of a cheerful-looking cereal bowl.

12. Scott Gustafson Pegasus And The Muses Limited Edition Canvas   $595.00

Scott Gustafson’s art is filled with characters, myths and fables many of us met in our childhoods. Pegasus and the Muses is an enchanting interpretation of a Greek legend. Athena, the Godess of Wisdom, was the first to discover the winged stallion Pegasus, who was the son of Medusa and Poseidon. Athena tamed the horse, and gave him to the Muses of Mt. Helicon as a gift.

13. Scott Gustafson Rumplestiltskin Limited Edition Print   $125.00

17. Scott Gustafson The Journey Begins Limited Edition Print   $145.00

As Scott tells us, Beneath the great Celestial Clock, babies headed for earth are assigned to their trusty guides. An old angel double checks all the coordinates—the position of the planets, relationship of the sun, moon and stars—scheduling the delivery with little regard for the readiness or unreadiness of the parents-to-be. Finally, blessed by a spark from the flame of hope, the babies are off, destined to forever alter time and the universe for their earthly recipients. We’re sure you’ll agree, this marvelous image makes the perfect gift for new parents or grandparents! Published from the artist’s original oil painting. 18. Scott Gustafson The Maiden And The Unicorn Limited Edition Print   $185.00

Over the centuries, contrary meanings have been bestowed upon the unicorn—virtue, sin, chastity, wildness, death and rebirth among them. One aspect of the legend, however, has never been disputed: only a maiden can tame the proud beast. Scott Gustafson explores these myths while offering lively new interpretations in The Maiden and the Unicorn, which has been created in the same wondrously detailed tradition as the extremely popular, sold out print Merlin and Arthur. This enchanted glen is full of symbols explained by Gustafson in a fascinating essay that accompanies each print.

19. Scott Gustafson The Pirate And The Mermaid Limited Edition Canvas   $595.00

Of all mythical creatures, mermaids are perhaps the most alluring and mysterious, Scott says. They embody feminine beauty while remaining elusive and unobtainable. They appeal to both women and men, much like the pirate. The pirate has become a potent symbol in recent mythology (say, the last few hundred years). One need only see the skull and crossbones to unlock a treasure chest of images filled with daring and adventure. This painting is a glimpse into the lives of a couple poised between two worlds, something we less mythological beings are familiar with, too.

26. Scott Gustafson The Alice In Wonderland Suite Limited Edition Print   $195.00

Creating a new Alice look was a fun challenge. I was happy to combine the traditional with the new, the scrupulously researched with the fanciful. I needed to forget all my preconceptions and work from the original source materials and my own imagination. For instance, the original book said only that the caterpillar was smoking a hookah. I took it from there, adding all sorts of Middle Eastern touches.

27. Scott Gustafson The Country Mouse And The City Mouse Smallwork Canvas Edition   $195.00

Once upon a time artist Scott Gustafson turned his paintbrush to this delightful Aesop’s fable onto each his own. The city mouse visits the country mouse and finds his raw nuts and feed corn coarse and unappetizing. The country mouse visits the city mouse where the repast is refined and wildly diverse, but eating it is nearly impossible with the all the roaming cats and human activity. Gustafson’s usual good cheer imagines the two happily toasting, vive le difference!

All those details go toward making this limited edition anniversary canvas the charming work of art it truly is.
