Notes*:

Snow White This piece is one of a series of paintings commissioned by The Toon Studio of Beverly Hills for me to recreate retro Storybook characters using my neomanneristic, urban style. I call these characters “Urban Toons” Snow White is the subject of this painting. She is a sultry singer at a jazz club, along with the seven Dwarves as her band. She is still wearing the typical Snow White colors, but has updated to a more bohemian, urban style. Her belt buckle has her initials, SW, and her necklace has the number seven, for her dwarves. Notice that on her guitar has the infamous poisoned apple painted on it

Artist Bio: Born in Los Angeles and raised in Sacramento, Garibaldi’s early life was overshadowed by the tough environment that surrounded him. He was not immune to the lure of graffiti life, and he found a niche in urban art. It was not until high school that Garibaldi was able to parlay underground influences and hip-hop culture into positive career opportunities. Despite hard times to come, he walked away from the mean streets for good and refused to lose the focus and drive of a young artist pursuing the dreams of world renown. In 2003, David Garibaldi began turning his illustrations on paper into paintings on canvas. Although painting was gratifying, Garibaldi wanted to take his artistry to a different level. He started painting live at urban jazz sessions, nightclubs, and hip-hop events, using music events to spark his creativity. Painting live became performance in its own right, and Garibaldi’s work evolved into stage entertainment. As he dances, paint flies, arms flail, and he moves his body. Garibaldi becomes a man in motion, turning his live stage performance into a show known to fans as “Rhythm and Hue.” If indeed there are any other fine artists breaking creative boundaries between the artist’s studio and the performer’s stage, then it’s Garibaldi who is leading the way. The buzz over “Rhythm and Hue” performances has reached celebrities, CEOs, politicians, and pro athletes. Garibaldi has been featured on various networks such as MTV, NBC, PBS, in addition to coverage in worldwide publications. His recent studio pieces have fared equally well, including a series appropriately named Rhythm, Color, Culture, Energy. Garibaldi is an innovator in this century’s growing genre of urban-contemporary artists who are quickly changing the face of the art world. The creativity, passion, and maturity in his style are not often seen in artists twice his age, and many are humbled by his youth. The essence of rhythm comes alive with every brushstroke, and Garibaldi’s life-like, graffiti inspired scenes have exhilarated a new generation of art buyers while imbuing countless thousands of admirers with the tones and textures of music-fueled urban nights.
