Artist Bio: Howard Rogers is a master artist who paints subjects including wildlife, nudes, and florals, but he is most famous for his works featuring cowboys and their horses celebrating the West and its many icons. The artist lives his life in a manner that brings him happiness and fulfillment from a career spanning many successful years. Rogers’ background in art was encouraged and supported by his parents when he was a child and into his teens. After high school, the budding artist became a sign painter and then served in the U. S. military. Returning home, Rogers supervised the sign department for a chain of grocery stores. Determined to pursue an art career, he was accepted at the renowned Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California; during this time, he met his wife, Bonnie. Graduating with honors, Rogers moved to Detroit and became a commercial artist, mainly illustrating for the automobile industry. After 10 years in Detroit, the artist and his wife moved to New York City where he illustrated for several famous magazines such as Reader’s Digest, McCall’s, and Good Housekeeping. Rogers’ expert figurative illustrations brought him numerous commissions to paint book covers for Simon and Schuster and also Harlequin. This led to poster work for the motion picture industry; his most readily-recognized poster may be Diamonds are Forever, named for the James Bond movie. Rogers was extremely successful, but he yearned for more creative fulfillment. After discussions with Bonnie, his best consul and critic, the adventurous couple moved West. Rogers began his love affair with the West and all it represents. Horses, cowboys, and pretty women became his trademarks, along with his rich palette, which is inspired by the rugged landscape, elements, and people of Western lore. The artist’s western paintings capture the aura of the western experience and are easily recognized with cowboys riding the trail, cattle round-ups, and life on working ranches. The artist’s original works are represented by major galleries. Rogers also creates bronze sculptures.
