1. James Christensen The Listener   $2500.00

There are two types of people, those who wait to talk and those who listen. -Anonymous In the Dolby surround sound of our daily lives, we all have to find our own mute button.Since a painting has no soundtrack, the title character at the center of The Listener has found the best way to shut off all the noise in the visual cacophony around him by closing his eyes, Christensen says.Listening to his still, small, inner-voice, he remains centered without being overcome. We can all find peace in this busy world, but sometimes need to be reminded that we are in charge of our destiny and each of us has the ability to focus without being pushed and pulled as victims. The characters found in the colorful noise around the listener in this painting take many forms including politicians, mothers-in-law, musicians, and famous artists can you find Picasso? Through it all, our listener ignores the noise in favor of his own personal tranquility.

5. James Christensen All The World's A Stage   $363.00

Kings, queens, knaves and clowns... your favorite Shakespearean characters come to life! The Bard and more than 50 of his dramatis personae take a bow in this remarkable tribute to Shakespeare`s entire canon"38 plays, including the obscure Two Noble Kinsmen. With the Old Globe Theatre as backdrop, James assembles an eclectic cast of fictional characters and actors in rehearsal mingling with a few thespians who never tread the boards (but might have flittered above them). You"ll find Romeo proffering a rose to Juliet, who rebuffs the salacious overtures of Henry VIII. Viola of Twelfth Night is in the act of binding her breasts to fill the manly role of Cesario, while beside her other Shakespearean heroines don male apparel to play their virile counterparts"all the more interesting when you consider that in Shakespeare`s day men played all the female roles. Caesar is a self-portrait"an opportunity for the artist to make a statement about backstabbing (he doesn"t like it!) and revel in applause (notice Titus Andronicus giving him a warm hand). All humor aside . . . James" prodigious knowledge of Shakespeare manifests in a work offering multiple layers of meaning and countless discoveries. All the World`s a Stage was commissioned by the Utah Shakespearean Festival"winner of this year`s Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre"in celebration of its 40th anniversary.

8. James Christensen If Pigs Could Fly Artist Proof Canvas   $650.00

There are oodles of adages associated with when pig fly: events extremely unlikely to occur or just plain nonsensical. In the world of artist James C. Christensen, a flying pig might seem perfectly commonplace. But the hunchback holding a candle in If Pigs Could Fly is oblivious to his winged counterpart. In Christensens art, the hunchback represents the imperfect everyman and the candle he carries signifies his wisdom and faith (or the faith in his wisdom, as the case may be). Our hero forges onward, walking ahead, not expecting the unexpected, nor noticing whats happening just over his shoulder. If Pigs Could Fly reminds us that anything and everything is possible, and not to eliminate any possibility.

10. James Christensen Madonna With Two Angels Framed   $595.00

Behold the latest offering from James C. Christensens Saints and Angels collection, a series of paintings that he attributes to his alter-ego, an obscure Flemish painter known as The Master of the Enoch Altarpiece. The subject of Madonna with Two Angels is Mary, mother of Jesus, flanked by angels. The models for Mary and the angels might have been the Masters patrons, as it was customary at the time for the wealthy to request portraits that incorporated characteristics of saints or angels. This devotional piece would have hung in a private home to inspire prayer. Perhaps it was part of a familys altar. This limited edition is framed to match the stunning beauty of the original framed art. Previous Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Limited Editions from the series include Saint with White Sleeves (shown far left), Isabella and The Enoch Altarpiece (all Sold Out in canvas at Publisher).

11. James Christensen Michael The Archangel Battles The Dragon While Almost Nobody Pays Any Attention   $950.00

The confrontations between the Archangel Michael and the Dragon (Satan, in one of his many forms) are epic conflicts between good and evil where the fate of Heaven and Earth hang in the balance.Yet most of those affected by the final outcome are blithely unaware. This piece, says artist Jim Christensen, talks about the power you have to be good and righteous in taking on the evil in this world. The title says almost nobody pays attention , but you see Michael and the Dragon. What are you going to do? These skirmishes happen daily, not a world away, but in our own cities, towns and neighborhoods. They can be as blatantly obvious as they are innocuous. Being aware has little to do with ones social or economic status: it is the degree you perceive that the world isnt on course and what action you are willing to take to rectify it.

12. James Christensen Poofy Guy On A Short Leash   $495.00

In the fantastic world of James Christensen, apoofy guy is recognizable by the inordinate layers of clothing he wears, symbolizing a touch of self-importance as well as the accumulated baggage of a lifetime. This light and airy piece just may suggest marriage, as James asks us to consider the luck wepoofy guys have in being cared for by a responsible woman.Thank heavens guys like us have some one holding onto us, otherwise, wed just spin off into the atmosphere and pop!

13. James Christensen Sharing Our Light   $595.00

James captivates us anew as he asks that we reflect on the virtue of sharing. The light within each of us is a gift to share with others. I believe our talents grow when we share our experiences with friends, family, sweethearts, and especially the young. Like Everyman, you can also search for other thoughtful people and share your light with them. Published from the artists original acrylic painting.

17. James Christensen Visitation/preoccupation   $645.00

How often do we find ourselves too preoccupied within our own little worlds to realize when something truly momentous is happening outside of them? Are we paying enough attention to those around us to really hear what they are saying? Jim Christensen created this seriesWinged Words to poke fun at people (using barbed wire) and get them to realize,Yeah, I do that, too. In this extreme example, a very self-important individual, in all his pomp and finery, fails to realize the heavenly nature of his visitor because hes just not listening. In Latin, the angel says,I am dead. The mans response to his rather uncommon occurrence,How do you like my clothes? underscores how little he is paying attention. The pear in the mans hand, one bite takenbordering on the over-ripe, is a reminder that we may not have all the time we think we do to amend these failures in communication.

18. James Christensen Litho Finding Fish By James Christensen Hand Colored Print   $775.00

A Hand-Tinted Original Stone Lithograph by James C. Christensen Elegant and captivating are the two hallmarks you should expect of any James Christensen Hand-Tinted Original Stone Lithograph. Finding Fish is an excellent companion to Christensens When Faeries Talk with Fishes (Sold Out at Publisher). In James visual vocabulary, a floating fish connotes the presence ofmagic, the type of which he leaves for you to define. Stone lithography is considered an original art form because the image itself is created on the stone before the lithograph is made. Each lithograph of Finding Fish will be hand-colored by the ubiquitous Magic Fish Studio so each will be slightly different and completely unique.

19. James Christensen The Rich Young Ruler   $545.00

How much are you willing to sacrifice to follow what you believe? That is the dilemma James C. Christensen presents in The Rich Young Ruler. Christensens most popular scriptural works have focused on the challenge to live our faith, to give all that we have and to live in a state of thankfulness. Just before his triumphal entrance into Jerusalem, Jesus passed through a town where a righteous young man asked him what he could do to inherit eternal life. The young man told Jesus how he followed the Commandments and obeyed the laws of his people, but Jesus asked something more:Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, he said, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. The home of The Rich Young Ruler is filled with symbols of both his success and his dilemma. The laden camels in the frieze in the foreground illustrate Jesus next words to his disciples,It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. The ruler himself is richly dressed in fine fabrics and jewels and the room is filled with lush plants, which in a desert setting would be quite costly to maintain. Sputtering beside the entrance to the door is the rulers lamp that, like the flame of his belief, wavers in the wind. These symbols, combined with Christensens unique style, make The Rich Young Ruler an elegant story of difficult decisions and of a Master who will always look back and offer another chance. The original painting was commissioned by a successful businessman, todays equivalent of a rich young ruler, says Christensen. He wanted a visual reminder that success has many forms and that faith is its own reward. He wanted to ask himself every day what he would have done in that situation.

20. James Christensen Two Men In Conversation Attempting To Put Things Le Canvas   $495.00

This piece, James tells us, was influenced by Gothic painting and manuscript illumination, but the departure point is, of course, a pun on the word perspective. For centuries, old men in villages have sat around tables and philosophized, trying to put life into perspective. Here are two fellows-looming large because theyre the main subjects of the image as well as the center of their own conversation-discussing the community around them, the different strata of society being represented by a nobleman, scholar, beggar and so on. Once rumor and innuendo are nicely digested, this duo may chew on larger issues. Gicle canvas. Accompanied by a brass title plate. Stretched size: 19w x 17h, published from the artists original acrylic and gold leaf painting. 475 signed by the artist and consecutively numbered.

24. James Christensen Princess in the Tower   $245.00

Many of my paintings are inspired by stories from literature, mythology and history, but many others are their own stories,” says James C. Christensen, “stories that have yet to be told. The elements of this scene are familiarthe crumbling tower, the thorns and brambles surrounding it and the princess trapped withinbut it’s up to the viewer to create the plot. I like to encourage imagination wherever I can and I find it very satisfying to create these points of departure. Two of the nicest things a fan can tell me are ‘I made up a story about this painting’ or ‘. . . this makes me smile.’” Here at The Greenwich Workshop, we’re wondering if she climbed the tower with the hat on, or did it get handed to her in a fly-by after she arrived? Hang this new Christensen Fine Art Edition in your house and begin a never-ending story with your friends and family.

25. James Christensen A Lawyer More than Adequately Attired in Fine Print ANNIVERSARY EDITION ON   $475.00

James C. Christensen’s sold-out paper lithograph print of this image graces the walls of scores of attorneys (who, fortunately, all have a great sense of humor.) Now the popular send-up of lawyers is available in a Fine Art Canvas Anniversary Edition. In a world of black and white, this attorney feels more at ease in the gray areas. He contemplates the implications of a grain of truth, which is more than enough for a lawyer to build an entire case. An adequate supply of loopholes is sewn onto his coat. His fashion taste runs toward fine print (albeit he has his assistant check it for him). A stuffed and rather moldy owl sits strapped securely to his shoulder to give him the appearance of wisdom. His watch records the billing hours not in minutes but in dollars and he’s billing you even as you read this! Can you find the “Quart of A. Peels”? This Fine Art Canvas edition comes with a “Notice of Discovery and Inspection” document to further elucidate this upstanding specimen of the legal profession.

26. James Christensen Arise and Shine Forth OPEN EDITION   $395.00

27. James Christensen Three Wise Men in a Boat   $295.00

“These three are obviously on an important mission,” says James Christensen, “dressed in their finest clothes and all very serious, even the camel. We’re not sure who they are but they each appear to be carrying a special gift.”

Their magical golden boat, complete with Moorish-inspired stone arches and a filigreed rudder, sports a “lateen” sail common around the Mediterranean Sea and other Mideast coastal waters. Is this ship floating or has it run aground? Perhaps they are near Bethlehem . . . but it looks a lot like northern Europe. Then again, this journey in a spectacular vessel of imprecise ancestry across a Flemish landscape might just be a jewel of a metaphor for life itself.

“These three wise men are taking a shortcut,” says the artist with a twinkle in his eye.
“There’s only one camel on deck. The other two are below because they get seasick.”

This holiday-inspired image from the professor of the imagination, James C. Christensen, is a treasure for your home year round.

28. James Christensen Shakespearean Fantasy   $950.00

“I’ve had a lifelong love affair with Shakespeare’s works. Of all the artistsand certainly of all the playwrights and poetswho have ever lived, Shakespeare comes closest to my ideal” says James C. Christensen. “If I took all my best artistic qualities and exaggerated them to become some sort of creative superhero, I like to think I’d be a lot like Shakespeare.

“This painting was commissioned by the Utah Shakespearean Festival. People ask me, ‘Why do you only have some of his plays represented here?’ My answer is always the same: ‘The other plays are on the back of the island, just go around!’ Seriously, a few of the references are tough, so you may need to revisit your Shakespeare to get them all.

“The Bard had such a deep and intimate understanding of the human condition, so much so that his plays, which were written nearly a half-millennium ago, are still being performed. Why? Because the messages, trials and joys of his characters are universal and because they are beautifully expressed. The pleasure of reading Shakespeare’s sonnets or attending a performance of one of his plays is in his finely crafted language. He says things the way I wish I could say them.”

29. James Christensen The Chess Match Limited Edition   $225.00

There are 1,327 named openings and variations to a match in The Oxford Companion to Chess, but how can a player remember any of them when the day’s spectators include a pair of dragons? “Actually, I don’t think anyone is worried about them at all,” laughs the artist James C Christensen. “They enjoy a well played game. It’s the little guys with the lances that get ornery when they are captured.”
Welcome to The Chess Match as imagined by James, the professor of the imagination. “These characters are quite passionate about the game. You’ll notice that they’ve incorporated the checkerboard pattern into their clothing and even onto the castle walls. But, they’ve only learned the game as distant observers, somewhat like you or me getting fascinated over a rugby match on the Aussie Channel. We could get all excited, run into the backyard and form up a scrum but we wouldn’t know the nuances of the game. Still, we’d have all sorts of fun and maybe even lose some teeth in the process.”
“The two players remind me of Oberon, in red, and Titania, in blue, from Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, each with their own castles and followers. Instead of playing with the traditional black and white pieces I was going to tip a hat to Alice in Wonderland by using red and white. From a design point of view, it was a little boring,” reveals Christensen, “so I went with blue instead of white. I didn’t think much about it until a friend stopped by and pointed out that I happened to choose the colors of Utah’s own Holy War--the University of Utah (red) vs. BYU (blue).”
As for the field of play, it’s classic Christensen. There is little doubt that the two queens, one with her magical staff and the other with her broadsword, are the most powerful players on the board. The kings, being slightly less so, have compensated for their diminutive stature with rather tall thrones. At this point in the game, the blue king has opted for a nap, while the red king does his best to direct traffic with a staff not as potent as his queen’s.
“I had fun playing the different pieces off of each other,” relates James. “Knights, castles and kings all employ minions and ogres to move them about the field. The red bishop is very ‘Rome’, as if he has just arrived, ornate mitre and all, from a conference at the Vatican. His counterpart is a red-haired, crazy druid running around (technically, diagonally) with a bunch of skulls on his belt. You have the Napoleonic, Great Garabaldi pawn in the foreground very serious and very fired up for his role while his opposite number seems to be having trouble mustering any real sincerity.”
Then, there’s the crowd that surrounds the main event. Advisors, apprentices and dragons are part of the action. Like children mimicking adults, a group of faeries plays their own version of the game. A traveling salesman, in this case a “pawn-broker,” entices the locals with his wares. A chip monk hides in the woods holding a pawn. Has he swiped it, or is he looking to get in a game?
An old, lost king lies half buried in the ground. Seventy-eight of his companions, known as the Lewis Chessmen, were discovered in 1831 on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland. These medieval ivory pieces date back to the 12th century and are believed to have been brought to the Scottish islands by the Norwegians, who ruled Scotland at the time.
“For those who know me well and that think I’ve forgotten something here, I haven’t. Hidden in the forest are at least three (maybe more) fish adding their enchantment to the day’s festivities. After all, it wouldn’t be a Christensen without magic in the air. And, oh, by the way, it’s red’s move.”

31. James Christensen The Golden Ball   $325.00

“Once upon a time . . . .” The inspiration for this mysterious beauty in the wood comes from the classic fairy tale The Frog Prince wherein the most beautiful princess in the land loses her little gold ball down a well and promises a frog he can be her dearest companion if only he retrieves the it. To make this short story shorter, he does and she reneges on her promise until her father, the king, seizing the opportunity of a teaching moment, makes her keep her promise. The lovely princess holds her nose to befriend the frog but after a few days, she actually does like her new friend and kisses him. He turns into the prince he was before a witch cast a spell on him and the two live happily ever after.

Foremost fantasy artist James C. Christensen captures the precise moment of truth where the delicate fingertips of the princess holds her most precious object and contemplates the cost of keeping it, against the cost of sharing her love with the world. Luckily for that frog, she made the right choice.

32. James Christensen Benediction MASTERWORK ANNIVERSARY EDITION Artist Proof    $1500.00

The words coming out of this angel's mouth are purposely provocative and designed to make you wonder "What does that mean?" It's Latin, beatus est pisciculus, meaning "Blessed is the little fish." Floating fish symbolize the magic all around us and they are blessed little things themselves, to bring this magic into our lives. Is the angel blessing the fish or the fish blessing the angel? The fish is a symbol I frequently use and this painting was meant as my "thank-you" for a lot of the magic in my life.

Christensen's original painting is 36x48 inches. Our Anniversary edition is released in two sizes, a very limited quantity at a major-statement size of 40 x 30, and also at 24 x 18 inches. The blessing of Benediction works beautifully at either size.

33. James Christensen Jonah ANNIVERSARY EDITION ON   $425.00

Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah.
And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
Jonah 1:17

“I always loved the Jonah story,” says James C. Christensen. “When I thought about the scripture that said the Lord had ‘prepared a great fish’ to swallow the recalcitrant prophet, I went home and got to thinking that if I were God, I’d make a really neat-looking fish. So I painted what I thought it might look like. The thing to remember is that the window is a one-way mirror. If Jonah could see out, it would be just another vacation cruise.”

34. James Christensen The Tie That Binds Limited Edition DIPTYCH   $250.00

“The best friendships can and will endure,” explains James Christensen. “My wife has a life-long friend that lives in California. We live in Utah. Their relationship is more like that of sisters, although possibly even stronger. They have been friends for decades. Over that period of time they have had the chance to share all the joys life has presented them. They have also looked to and supported each other through hardship, distance and change. Separately, they have grown but never have they grown apart. The physical distance between them is overcome by an unseen connection.
“This painting is a diptych, each panel its own character. Unlike my diptych Sisters, both of these women are equals in their relationship as indicated by the similar style of clothing between the two. Both women lightly grasp the tie that binds them together. It is not a difficult thing to manage. Additionally, each has an ample length of cord in reserve, ensuring that no physical distance between them can severe their tie. ”
As with James Christensen’s original diptych, both Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Editions of The Tie That Binds are presented in two panels. One of artist’s ideas in creating the work was that each of the sister panels could reside in a separate residence, serving as a beautiful and thoughtful reminder of the relationship that makes this painting complete.
Both panels of each edition will be signed by Christensen and numbered as a set. Like many other editions in this Catalogue, The Tie That Binds will be available not only as a Fine Art GiclTe Canvas, but as a Fine Art Paper Print as well.

35. James Christensen Parables ANNIVERSARY EDITION   $495.00

“Few of us remember all of Jesus’ parables; it seems each time I read the New Testament, it’s a matter of rediscovery,” said artist James C. Christensen. “I’ll come upon a certain parable and find it has new meaning and relevance to my life. That’s why I thought I would gather several parables together in one image and create an opportunity for viewers to recall and share them. I worked closely with my friend Robert Millet, Professor of Ancient Scripture at Brigham Young University, in selecting these twelve and we feel that each conveys a special aspect of Jesus’ teachings. I always hope my work fosters not only contemplation and personal reflection, but also a sharing of experiences. I’d be delighted if this print inspired you to talk about these stories with your children or grandchildren.”

36. James Christensen Finding Your Fish Artist Proof SMALLWORK EDITION   $550.00

This painting is about that blissful moment when you meet your magic, whatever that may be.

37. James Christensen The Yellow Rose   $495.00

“When I painted The Yellow Rose I had just come back from a trip to Italy. Everywhere we went there seemed to be another centuries-old building adorned with yet another breath-taking fresco. There was such a lost and found quality to discovering these works. Most carried a religious theme, but there was also a sense of high romance in them as well. That is what I tried to capture here,” says Christensen.

“The woman has a halo, but I’m not quite sure that I meant her to be a saint. She definitely is instilled with divine grace, however. The yellow rose is symbolic of light and warmth, as opposed to a red rose which is more often associated with love and lovers. I also focused on taking a much more painterly approach to this piece. I wanted it to have the built-up and layered textures like those frescos I had seen in Italy. An astute observer will notice that this is the same model that I used for The Beggar Princess and the Magic Rose, but that painting was actually inspired by this one.”

38. James Christensen All That She Had Artist Proof   $790.00

The parable of the Widow's Mite illustrates piety in its purest form. A widow, here depicted as a young woman in tattered finery, the last vestiges of her privileged former life, offers all that she has to the temple. Her contribution of two small coins may seem small when compared to the lavish donations of the city fathers, but, said Jesus, . . . this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: for all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all she had, even her living. (Mark 12: 43-44)

The square halo formed by the window behind the young widow hearkens back to 11th cenury Christian iconography. At that time, living saints and holy persons were depicted with a square nimbus, or halo, in order to differentiate them from the immortals.

39. James Christensen Lawrence Pretended Not to Notice That a Bear Had Become ANNIVERSARY EDITION   $525.00

Lawrence Pretended Not to Notice That a Bear Had Become Attached to His Coattail

"This is one of those paintings that most people can relate to," says James C. Christensen, "although often for a different reason than you may expect. I think everyone occasionally ignores problems in the hope that they will fade away, but that"s not the only interpretation for the image. When wildlife painter Bonnie Marris saw this painting she cried, "That poor bear! This is the third guy he"s gotten attached to this week and this isn"t even his neighborhood! Did you ever think about that?"

"Personal experience has a major influence on people"s interpretation of the painting"s message. When I gave a talk to third graders about trusting their ideas, I asked them what they thought Lawrence " was about. One little girl said, "You shouldn"t take pets home without asking your mom.""

This classic Christensen image, a perennial collectors" favorite, is now available for the first time as a Fine Art Limited Edition GiclTe Canvas.

40. James Christensen Fiona   $495.00

Clothed in garb of cobwebs and moonlight, Fiona catches your gaze. Like all of the sfdhe (faeries) she is breathtakingly beautiful, but Fiona is more than meets the eye. Celtic legends tell of men and women who followed the unearthly music of the faeries deep into the woods and were never seen again. Other folk tell a friendlier tale of the leanan sfdhe, the faerie muses who protect artists and poets in exchange for their immortal love.
James Christensen’s Fiona shines in her natural adornments. If you look closely, you’ll see the half-hidden subjects of her kingdom: flowers, animals and insects, hidden amid her garments. If you look closer still, you just might find exactly what you seek, but bewarethe promises of faeries are fleeting and nothing is ever quite what it seems.

41. James Christensen WE THREE KINGS   $695.00

“We have seen his star in the east” - Matthew 2:2

The sudden appearance of a new and brilliant star set the kings of the East on one of the Bible’s better-known journeys. Through the centuries, paintings have shown as many as eight kings. Some debate whether the magi were actual kings or a group of scholars, astronomers and priests. The Western tradition of three kings most likely arose from the three gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh that they brought to “the newborn King.” James C. Christensen provides us with a gift to treasure the whole year through. In his original painting, the star and the three gifts of the kings are gold leaf. For both the print and canvas editions, we were able to recreate this radiant effect, in fact, the canvas is hand-crafted with 22-karat gold leaf.

Each new Christensen offering this year has sold out at the Publisher, and we’re certain this will follow. So be sure to contact your local Greenwich Workshop dealer before this gift disappears.

42. James Christensen THE OATH LIMITED EDITION PORCELAIN   $595.00

For Every Doctor Who Believes Laughter is the Best Medicine

For more than 2,400 years physicians have honored Hippocrates? Sacred vow to treat a patient with empirical, scientific wisdom and ethical consideration. However, as Christensen wittily reveals, medicine has taken directions that Hippocrates could never have imagined? The omnipresent beeper and mountains of paperwork, for example. At the same time some archaic treatments would surely elicit a chuckle?or shudder?from modern physicians and their patients. There's one diagnostic tool that hasn't changed, however: the crystal ball! Based on a popular limited edition fine art print of the same title. Fine art porcelain.

Approx. 9 3/4h. Edition limited to 950.

44. James Christensen The Fruits of Adversity   $599.00

I came up with the idea for this painting while working on the book, Lehi's Dream. The everyman is enjoying the white fruit of the Tree of Life, but the tree is coming from his hump"from his trials and adversity. He' walking on the straight and narrow path, which happens to be on top of a wall in this painting, but it's through the adversity he has endured that he is at last able to enjoy the fruit. This painting is a continuation as well as a return to the themes addressed in Sometimes the Spirit Touches Us through Our Weaknesses and After Clouds, Sun. I think because I was immersed in the story and symbols of Lehi's dream, this image popped into my head as another way to express the idea that our trials are given to us to help us grow and become more perfect.

45. James Christensen Betrothed   $175.00

My whole heart for my whole life . . . Once upon a time, the boundless imagination of master storyteller James C. Christensen created a series of paintings under the guise of an obscure (and fictitious) 15th century Flemish painter known only as the Master of the Enoch Altar Piece. This enigmatic collection became known as "Saints and Angels" for its similarities to the devotional art of that era, as well as its portrayals of largely forgotten Christian saints. As James tells us, "This piece was more than likely painted by the Master to celebrate the marriage of a young patrician. Often great distances separated the powerful houses. One legend tells of a groom-to-be commissioning such a painting to get a glimpse of his future bride."

46. James Christensen Music of Heaven   $325.00

"The earth has music for those who listen." -William Shakespeare In the midst of our hectic lives, it is easy to forsake what is important in favor of what needs to be done. We relinquish our quiet time, our communion with ourselves and a greater universe, for the daily realities that (it seems) cannot wait. Once in a while, however, if we would just be still and listen, we would hear something wondrous. The earth " indeed, heaven itself " has music for those who will listen.

47. James Christensen Portrait of Isabella Grimaldi as an Angel   $699.00

Once upon a time, the boundless imagination of master storyteller James C. Christensen created a series of paintings under the guise of an obscure (and fictitious) 15th century Flemish painter only know as the "Master of the Enoch Altarpiece." This enigmatic collection became known as Saints and Angels for its similarities to the devotional art of that era, as well as its portrayals of largely forgotten Christian saints. "Portrait of Isabella Grimaldi" as an Angel encapsulates the beauty an artist can create when inspiration strikes. Painting as the Master, Christensen imagined himself commissioned to create the work by a patroness from an influential family of Venice. It was customary at the time for the wealthy to request their portraits take on the literal characteristics of angels but may also reflect the Master's appreciation of Isabella as his muse.

48. James Christensen GETHSEMANE-LARGE   $125.00

GETHSEMANE-LARGE

49. James Christensen Garden Rendezvous Limited Edition Print   $185.00

A footfall breaks the silence as the mist drapes aimlessly about ruins that date back to the time of Avalon. The woman in the painting has just heard the sound and turns in its direction. A rendezvous is about to take place . . . . You cannot accuse Jim Christensen of being anything but an incurable romantic. While exploring the grounds of Castle Combe in southern England, Jim found himself taken in by the mood of a foggy day and stunning a rock wall that seethed a storied history. "This piece" Jim says, "is about a sense of place and the flights of fancy a location can evoke if you let it." Jim lost himself in the painting of the old stones and textures. He spent about a month working on the wall and far less time painting the woman."I felt my job here was to set the scene, to breathe life into a magical location. However, what noise she heard and the meeting about to take place " that"s up to the viewer"s imagination."

50. James Christensen Queen Mab In The Ruins Limited Edition Print   $185.00

The playwright Shakespeare and the poet Shelley fell under her spell. Countless lovers dream of her, waking to a happy bewitchment. Yet of all mortal men only one artist " James C. Christensen " has ever been admitted to the royal circle, privileged to meet the legendary Faerie Queen Mab and her attendants in all their enchanting glory.

51. James Christensen The Tie That Binds Limited Edition DIPTYCH   $1130.00

"The best friendships can and will endure," explains James Christensen. "My wife has a life-long friend that lives in California.
"This painting is a diptych, each panel its own character. "
As with James Christensen"s original diptych, both Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Editions of The Tie That Binds are presented in two panels. One of artist"s ideas in creating the work was that each of the sister panels could reside in a separate residence, serving as a beautiful and thoughtful reminder of the relationship that makes this painting complete.
Both panels of each edition will be signed by Christensen and numbered as a set. Like many other editions in this Catalogue, The Tie That Binds will be available not only as a Fine Art GiclTe Canvas, but as a Fine Art Paper Print as well.

52. James Christensen Three Clowns   $650.00

I painted this around the same time as "Faith, Hope and Charity" and they are both large-format decorative paintings. Clowns, jesters and hunchbacks are wonderful subjects to paint. Their every movement is exaggerated and their costumes are intentionally loud and silly.

53. James Christensen Visitation/preoccupation Limited Edition Print   $165.00

In this extreme example, a very self-important individual, in all his pomp and finery, fails to realize the heavenly nature of his visitor because he`s just not listening. In Latin, the angel says,I am dead. The man`s response to his rather uncommon occurrence,How do you like my clothes? underscores how little he is paying attention. The pear in the man`s hand, one bite taken"bordering on the over-ripe, is a reminder that we may not have all the time we think we do to amend these failures in communication.

54. James Christensen Hold to the Rod, the Iron Rod   $175.00

Hold to the Rod, the Iron Rod ***note*** this print is a limited edition numbered, but is not signed by James Christensen

55. James Christensen Tommy Tucker Porcelain Figurine   $325.00

Little Tommy Tucker sings for his supper: What shall we give him? White bread and butter. How shall he cut it without a knife? How will he be married without a wife?

56. James Christensen OLDE WORLD SANTA   $845.00

“I wanted to create a painting that would evoke both the history and traditions of the Christmas season,” said James C. Christensen. “I was surprised to discover that our Christmas is not just a transplantation of old world traditions but a synthesis of customs brought to this country by our forefathers. Our present day Santa Claus is a symbol, not only of Christmas, but also represents our melting-pot society. While our Christmas character is the conglomeration of traditions of many people and lands, he has become American in the same way we have. This painting is a fantasy, a personal interpretation of that 'jolly old elf' that embodies not only the spirit of Christmas, but the best of America.”

57. James Christensen THE ANNUNCIATION   $745.00

"The Annunciation" captures a moment soon after the angel Gabriel announces to Mary that she will bear the Christ Child. Mary is dressed in white, the color of purity. The post in the background resembles a pillar which in Renaissance art symbolized a separation between heaven and earth. According to early Christian literature, the small white feather on the right hand side of the painting symbolizes faith and contemplation.

58. James Christensen THE CANDLEMAN   $900.00

If you wander through the cobblestone streets at night, you can feel secure in the circle of light cast by "The Candleman." The children, wide-eyed and wondering, will be safe although its late and theyre far from home. The trusty Candleman will escort them through the still silence of the snow covered streets by the light of his torch and his hat abrim with burning candles. In this limited edition, artist James C. Christensen imagines a marvelous character, like a friendly crossing guard you may remember from your school days, who keeps a loving and watchful eye on everyone in his care.

59. James Christensen SIX BIRD HUNTERS IN FULL CAMOUFLAGE   $0.00

Hunting birds with a hammer attached to the end of a long, flexible pole is a definite challenged but these fellows have made it into an art. They take it very seriously. In the "land a little left of reality," the ritual has become much more important than the prize. Whoever has the best costume, more than who gets the bird, wins. Many people ask about the fish. It's a decoy. It just is. The final question, however, is always about the sixth bird hunter. Most people can only find five, the sixth one is so good that you can't even see him!

60. James Christensen BALANCING ACT   $325.00

"Like 'The Burden of the Responsible Man,' this is a very autobiographical piece. I just didnt know how I could balance another thing in my life, and then, bingo, this idea came into my head. Life is a balance between fun and work, spiritual qualities, education, nutrition our lives are continuous balancing acts. Of course, some of us make it a little more complex by putting our only balancing foot on the back of a moving turtle. Why are there three clocks in the image? Because were always balancing time." There are many specific symbols in the image. Most of them are far from obscure, but the little neat secrets include a king statue, the symbol of the omnipresence of politics and government. The skull is a spring hare skull, with a little label that reads “spring hare – lost race.” Its a joke, but it also symbolizes mortality. The owl and the pussycat represent marriage which is a major balancing act. The Latin in the image means “Equilibrium (balance) is to be desired.” In other words, as long as you remain upright, youre okay. Those are just a few things, but everything here means something. What do they mean to you?

61. James Christensen Benediction   $600.00

62. James Christensen ICARUS BOUND   $425.00

"What you probably see first in this image are the beautiful wings on Everyman. Next you notice that he's chained to a pillar - and then, if you look closely, you'll spot a key within his reach. I'm trying to suggest that we all have 'wings of potential,' the means to do or become whatever we want. "When I showed the still-untitled image to some friends, they said it reminded them of the story of Icarus. According to myth, Icarus learned to fly on wings made of wax and feathers. In some versions of the tale, he flies too close to the sun, which melts the wax and causes him to plummet into the ocean below. In other versions, he was also warned to say well above the waves because the spray could soak the feathers and destroy them. "The message of the myth is certainly relevant here. Although we may fly on wings of potential, we shouldn't do it recklessly - freedom and license are not the same things. We need to keep a steady course - and it wouldn't hurt to draw up a flight plan before departure."

63. James Christensen Cecelia MASTERWORK CANVAS EDITION   $1150.00

This stunning, decorative piece explores the texture, surface and richness of paint – and just happens to be named for the artists newest grandchild, Cecilia. Following in the footsteps of "Saint with White Sleeves," "Isabella" and "Sleeper, Lost in Dreams," is this latest Limited Edition. And whats particularly special about "Cecilia" is her exquisite gold enhancement. 64. James Christensen The Gift for Mrs. Claus   $745.00

Twenty “Twas the Night Before Christmases” ago, we were pleased to bring you our first Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Limited Edition from a promising young artist named James C. Christensen: "The Gift for Mrs. Claus." We commemorate this milestone with a striking Fine Art Anniversary Edition. “One of my favorite traditions of Christmas is making a gift for my wife,” says Christensen. “Whether it is a drawing of one of our children, a fantasy painting or a stained glass fish to hang in the kitchen window, I know that it will have special meaning for her because I have taken the time to make it. The anticipation of that moment of surprise is as much a part of the joy and excitement as the expression on her face when she actually opens her present. In 'The Gift for Mrs. Claus,' I tried to capture the sense of delightful conspiracy as Father Christmas puts aside a little extra time to prepare a special surprise for his wife.”

65. James Christensen Michael The Archangel Battles The Dragon While Almost Nobody Pays Any Attention   $2900.00

66. James Christensen Hold to the Rod, the Iron Rod   $3900.00

"Hold to the rod, the iron rod; Tis strong, and bright, and true. The iron rod is the word of God; Twill safely guide us through." - Joseph L. Townsend, The Iron Rod, LDS Hymns, no. 274 As we walk the road of life, we tend to collect things that make us feel safer and more sure of ourselves. These may be material possessions, titles or responsibilities, but in the end they amount to the same thing: a fleeting and superficial sense of security. It is only by holding fast to our beliefs that we can navigate life with any confidence. The character in "Hold to the Rod" finds himself so burdened with the mundane objects he has collected that, while he hopefully eyes the rod, he cannot reach up to hold it for fear of losing something else. The man has become little more than a vehicle for his adornments. He demonstrates that what is truly important is keeping sight of our true belief and faith, that they alone will guide us through.

67. James Christensen Virtue   $600.00

"To walk safely through the maze of human life, one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of virtue." -Buddha In the tradition of "Saint with White Sleeves," "The Beggar Princess and the Magic Rose" and "Sleeper Lost in Dreams" comes "Virtue," a beautiful and inspirational message of hope. The depicted graceful young woman may walk a dark path, but with determination and focus on her guiding principles she will surely find her way. Incorporating one of James C. Christensens most popular recurring themes, "Virtue" serves as a classic and elegant reminder to stay true to your beliefs, that faith and strength will see you through the dark times. “The candle is a symbol of light in the spirit,” says Christensen. “The candle is about being an example to others, but its also about keeping that light shining for yourself. Be true to yourself and to the things you know are important and dont let the world taint you.”

68. James Christensen The Yellow Rose MASTERWORK CANVAS EDITION   $1230.00

“The woman has a halo, but Im not quite sure that I meant her to be a saint.

69. James Christensen Benediction ANNIVERSARY EDITION CANVAS   $750.00

70. James Christensen THE CANDLEMAN   $600.00

71. James Christensen Butterfly Knight SMALLWORK CANVAS EDITION   $700.00

“Youve probably heard the phrase ‘excessive force — well this knight is the embodiment of excessive preparation,” says artist James C. Christensen. “He has armored himself to the point of immobility and his quarry will almost certainly evade him.” Fans of the artist will recognize many of his signature traits, however iron-clad, including the floating fish, the charming yet self-important little man and the hilarious detailed flourishes to the costumes right down to the bell lashed to the birds leg. Are those chicken feet? Say, those tail feathers look a bit suspicious . . . . Dont miss the opportunity to hang this delightful warrior in your home.

72. James Christensen The Nest   $850.00

“I was listening to a song by Nora Jones,” explains James Christensen. “At one point she sings, 'In a boat thats built of sticks and hay, we drifted from the shore . . . .' It occurred to me that a new marriage is like a tiny nest of sticks and twigs and on the river of life, our relationships act like a boat that holds us together as we travel along its meandering path. Through their journey together, this newlywed couple will build stronger supports into their fledgling nest until it will be a shelter able to withstand even the fiercest of storms. “The shoreline of the river is bountiful with signs that good fortune will accompany this newlywed couple throughout their passage. Heart-shaped bushes populate the undergrowth along the rivers edge. Lemons, a universal symbol of marital happiness, ripen abundantly on a tree. Next to it, the oranges signify that they hope to start a family. The white lilies are an indication of purity and virtue and the irises represent faith and hope. Peace and friendship in the family can be expected since a pair of swallows blesses this couple with their presence.” "The Nest" is not the first time James Christensen has focused his attention on the joyous institution of marriage. "The Bride" was a highly popular release that sold out quickly upon its release in 2005. "The Nest" is much more than a wonderful wedding or housewarming gift. It is a lasting reminder for any couple of the faith placed in each other in the early stage of their life together.

73. James Christensen A Lawyer More than Adequately Attired in Fine Print ANNIVERSARY EDITION ON   $710.00

James C. Christensens sold-out paper lithograph print of this image graces the walls of scores of attorneys (who, fortunately, all have a great sense of humor.) Now the popular send-up of lawyers is available in a Fine Art Canvas Anniversary Edition. His watch records the billing hours not in minutes but in dollars and hes billing you even as you read this! Can you find the “Quart of A. Peels”? This Fine Art Canvas edition comes with a “Notice of Discovery and Inspection” document to further elucidate this upstanding specimen of the legal profession.

74. James Christensen Angel with Two Faeries   $910.00

"I have always preferred to paint angels as beautiful winged women. I strongly feel that the feminine side of human nature communicates angelic qualities- peace, encouragement, support and unconditional love-in many ways, that which we get from our mothers," explains James Christensen. "And then there are faeries. These social yet mischievous creatures commonly make fleeting and momentary promises. Some have the attention span of a newt, and I have it on good authority, and neatness may not be their forte either. Given all that, it's not so hard to imagine a social structure upon which relationships between them could be based." Every now and then Christensen breaks out of his tight and detailed style and shows that he also knows his way around the sensuous qualities of paint. "Angel with Two Faeries" is part of the same series James created that included "Angel" (his most recent sold out fine art edition release). "Faith, Hope and Charity" and "Three Clowns" were also painted around the same time. While "Angel with Two Faeries" may be a wonderful companion piece to "Angel," this colorful and decorative Fine Art Giclee Canvas will hang resplendently by itself. Hurry and order yours before this piece of magic disappears.

75. James Christensen Still Small Voices   $1295.00

Grace occurs daily in the course of ordinary human life. The voice of ones own conscience can be that of God or some other heavenly agents, offering each of us the guidance needed for understanding and for action in this complicated world. "I covered the eyes of the figure to remind us that with such acts of grace, it is not important that we ‘see’ in order to hear. We have to live our lives in a fashion that enables a communication we can feel.” James Christensen

76. James Christensen Touching the Hem of God   $0.00

"When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, if I may touch his clothes, I shall be whole." - Mark 5:27-28 "So powerful is this woman's faith that the frenzy of a pressing crowd dissolves before the touch of such a devoted human spirit and the virtue of Christ." - James Christensen

77. James Christensen Finding Your Fish SMALLWORK EDITION   $450.00

This painting is about that blissful moment when you meet your magic, whatever that may be.
